This piece in fact does have two alignment holes and uses clips to hold the badge on the deck lid. The GT emblem is encased in plastic that has a metal backing that appears to be tack welded to the badge itself then ground down to a flush backing. A piece of rubberized sticky Pad/tape sits between the badge and the deck lid. I tried to remove the GT emblem in favor of an original style snake as seen on the 65/66 GT 350 but was unable to do so without damaging the badge.

So your badge cannot be reinstalled?

The badge can be reinstalled, it just slips into place and the original clips go back on,didn't mean to mislead anyone. Just letting you know that if you attempt to change the inner plastic GT emblem that you will probably end up destroying the badge.

Justin,
I too am interested what lies beneath the GT emblems on the front fenders. I haven't attempted to remove them but I might ask the body shop if they think that they can get them off without much trouble. My next day off is Thursday so I can get back to you about them then.

Snake badges = more power. lol I can never understand why some people try to make the car something it isn't. Let those why buy a Cobra wear their's and let the GT stay. No offense Vegasjay.

Mod's = more power.... The snake's can also be "earned" IMO. No offense taken btw My GT was ment for different thing's, that's all. A good example: I wasn't born an Airborne Soldier, but I "earned" my wing's through dedication, and hard work... I think there's some simularities. My car was born a GT but through dedication, and hard work (mine mostly! ) She will be a version of the Shelby. It's all good....

To resurrect an old thread, would it be possible to remove the inner GT badge from the rear medallion with a heat gun?

Not sure. I believe I still have my old GT faux gas cap in the shed. I just replaced it with one from the V-6 for like 25 bucks. I like the running pony though.

Here ya go guys, the answer to your burning questions about where the holes are. Kevin (05Stangkc) helped me out a while back by sending me a tracing of the "GT" badge with the alignment pins marked on them so I could go ahead and put my running pony's on without worrying they'd fit.

Print the attached pic and it'll come out actual size, you'll be able to see that the holes are fairly close, aligned north/south.

Have fun, Mark

MTAS is right. Heat makes it simple, then hit it with "Goo Gone".

I shave the trunk, and there are two holes on a horizontal plane, about an inch apart. Those can be covered by one emblem. That is, or a pony (You don't have to go back to the round fake fuel door.

Same construction on the fenders, but you would need a pony or something that will cover the odd location of the holes.
