I have 05 GT i get 14.3 mpg all city driving with K%n cai before only 12.4 mpg

Its all how you drive it

I don't know how you guys in the GT's are getting such good MPG. I'm currently at 14.4 and my average speed is around 25 so I do mainly city driving.
I agree, I can't see how they are getting such good MPG. I've traveled 500 mile up the I-5 from southern Cal to northern, cruise set @80, got an average 21 mpg. Traveled 260 miles on I-15 from SoCal to Vegas, cruise set @ 80, got 21 mpg. I'm basing this on what the computer tells me which has been very acurate when I did double check.

I Know I could do better than 14 in town, just not my town. All the streets are 40-45 speed limit and have stop lights every block.

I don't want to discourage anyone, because to me this car is way worth the extra gas, just being completely honest about the gas consumption.

stkdidy 1/8/06 03:20 AM

i got 18.7mpg on both of my last two tanks, bout 75% highway, 25% city driving.

with 4.30gears

i get about 14mpg hard all-city driving, and 20 hard highway. i get 24mpg in the real world at 65mph in cruise control, but who wants to do that lol

edit: ive never tested what mpg i get with easy city driving, as its impossible to do with gears that short

My mileage computer seems to be most accurate when I'm highway cruising, and the more city-based my trips, the more the computer tends to under-estimate my MPG. Sometimes, the city driving will underestimate the mileage by about two MPG.
The only way to know for sure is a paper and pencil calculation.

05GT with 9,XXX miles, manual. Our driving is 50/50 with city and highway and we get 22-23 miles per gallon and this is not driving it easy all the time. I always average 300 miles to a tank. Took a trip to south Georgia during November and it was all highway driving and ended up with 330 miles to a tank.

If I'm not mistaken, it's a 16 gallon tank. So 300 miles would be 18.75 mpg. Is the computer saying 22-23?

SilverGT05 1/10/06 10:33 AM

I "average" 300 a tank. The computer usually reads 22.X. When it says I have 50 miles left to go, I've usually gone 285-295 miles on the trip meter. I say 300 because I am not going to run it down to less than 1 mile before I fill up.

SilverGT05 1/10/06 10:35 AM

I don't know what size the tank is, even though I was wondering; we filled up last night and it would only take 12.5 gallons, even though we had around 40 miles left to go according to the computer. Does that sound right, or is something wrong with the car/gas tank/computer?

I think I can give the closest comparisons to Gearhead and his V6 #'s with my GT, as my daily trips are fairly close to his. I average 25 MPG on the IUP computer. I've modded a bit (see sig), but have found the mods didn't make that much of an improvement or detriment to MPG from stock. (+/- 1-2 MPG)

My typical drive is about 18 miles, which includes:
Cold-start & 25-35 MPH for 3 miles
Freeway 75 MPH for 8 miles
Freeway 55-65MPH for 7 miles
Parking garage <15MPH for .5 mile.

I hit maybe 4 stop signs or lights my whole trip. Sitting at the lights and then not resisting the urge to floor it on green will bring the MPG down quickly. But it sho' is fun! My previous 4 cyl car got 28MPG but I hated driving it. And it was ugly looking too.

where are all the people who swapped out their gears for 3.73 or 4.10s...post your mpg... i would like to compare..

as for me...i had my gears swapped on my v6 with 3.73, a week ago... i get 21 mpg 80% highway/20% city.. f i did all highway driving...i think i could hit 23/24 mpg...that is if i go 70-75 the whole way...

don_w 1/12/06 12:52 PM

4.10s for me... 17-18mpg on my daily commute, and 22-23 on the open road (at 75-80mph).

Hatchman 1/13/06 10:06 AM

I think you loose about 2mpg with the 4.10's. Not too bad of a trade off, IMO.

E-Rock 1/13/06 10:37 AM

Automatic GT, 13,000+ miles, 90% highway driving. I average about 25mpg.

I was at 19 until I set the crusie at 68 every day. I drive 100 miles, round trip, to work so I take it easy and in the process save myself some gas for the weekend... when I drive it like I stole it. :-D

look next time you fill up, you will never fill up more than 15gallons, never. the most ive ever filled up was 15.05 gallons, but that was running on "0 miles to empty" for about 20miles

Rash 1/14/06 08:47 PM

Thanks everyone for the replies. I decided to get the GT. Premium Coupe, loaded, fanblades. Factory order. Can't wait!
