Re Tune Necessary?

Tune Advice Needed

I've been getting different answers by two different reputable shops. Question is, I have a Predator Tuner, and had Adam at ST MotorSports whip up some magic for the stock air box "k&n filter", which got me 20hp/34tq. I recently purchased the JLT and one shop is telling me I have to get the JLT tune, and they can't modify my current one to accommodate the JLT. So, I called ST Motorsports and a co-worker asked Adam the same question, and he came back saying I shouldn't have to do anything, the current tune will take full advantage of the JLT? I have since installed Underdrive Pulley’s, Alum Driveshaft, SLP's, and 4.10's after Adams tune. I did make the adjustment my self for the 4.10's, but that being said, what’s everyone else think? Should I take it back to him to verify settings, or put it on and have a local shop run it on the dyno, to verify the specs and then take it to Adam to make modifications?

Thanks

i would say run it on the dyno since the JLT is a straight shot to the TB and the stock box has alot of bends in it but believe me you will get a good 5-10hp over your stock box OR ask Adam to retune for the JLT just to be safe

Guess I'm going to have to do the Hour 1/2 drive, since the shop only min. away says they need a JLT baseline to work from? Why couldn't they just dyno it, verify specs, and make adjustments accordingly to the addition of the increased air flow? Is it really that simple? I truely believe it all comes down to the expierence of the tuner themselves!

I would head down to Adam again if I were you. 1.5 hours isn't that bad of a drive to get some hands on time from Adam.

I drove 7.5 hours for him to tune mine. All the guys in that shop have gained my business for life!

Those are pretty **** impressive gains for just a K&N Filter!

Reply from local shop. True or Not?

"Nobody said it can't be. There is minimal adjustment using your predator
and you can not pinpoint a specific area if the tune is off. It may or
may not work. Why don't you install your new cai and see how your car
runs. That way you know what will have to be done."

Somewhat. It could also lean the ***** out of the car. Install it, monitor the AFR with a wideband. I would have someone re-tune. I like my tunes to be per each part neccesary, not... oh yea that will work with a CAI too.

But yea, install it leaving the tune in. Run the car with a wideband, and adjust fuel and spark as needed with the diablo. I think you'll find you need atleast 2 additional degrees spark, and 4%+ fuel at WOT.

This being a guestimate, not knowing what your tune looks like now.

You will absolutly need a new tune. The JLT takes as much as 25-30% more fuel uptop then the standard K&N tune and you wont even be close in the mid range either. Spark timing isn't affected by the CAI you use.

Either go back to them or just let me know, I can do the JLT adjustments to the Diablo tune you have now.

Thanks, Doug.

Any time you change the housing that the mass air sensor resides in you will need a new tune.
