Radar Detectors

Is anyone using a radar detector? If so, what brand, model, etc.

Where's the best place to mount a detector on a S197? The dots on the windshield may interfere with laser detection.

Bel RX65 beats it in every test by every respected tester.

The things I don't like about the X50:

*Thumbwheel button (overtime, oxidation can build up on contacts)
*Lack of voice alerts (according to the descriptions)

The Bel's will say "Warning, Ka Alert!!! <insert Ka tone>"
I never have to look at the detector.

So how are you mounting the X50? In plain sight on the dash or center of the windshield using suction cup mounts with a wire dangling around?

I don't have one as I rarely drive fast these days and if I am in a spirited mood, I doubt a radar detector is going to help.

I've heard the Valentine 1 is the best though..

The V1 is rather dated. They were slow to implement Ka POP detection and I hear that their upgrade fees can get almost as high as buying a new Bel or Escort.

I don't have a picture, but mine is hard wired but suction cupped to the windshield below the rearview so it picks up the best.

How did you mount that? Did you bolt it to the overhead console?

I am using the suction cups. Easily mountable and it just plugs into the lighter. The stang is so easy to get over the speed limit and not notice it that I highly recommend one. Oh, the beep is more than loud enough to warn you. You don't just need a visual but you can at least turn the buzz down and watch for the lights to blink. I swap it out to my daily driver so it has to remain portable.

Scott posted his setup here, same mount, same Solo S2.

I thought about putting a running pony or tri-bar logo, we'll see.
