I just ordered the K&N kit without a tuner (I wanted to get the rpmoutlet deal for 500 buck couldnt afford it right now, so guess I will just have to pay more for a tuner later)
When it arrives I am debating if I should leave the HC trap out or not. I have read various things as well as newer vehicles don't have the trap.

So my basic question is anyone with the K&N/no tune/no trap, have you had any issues with CEL or anything. I am figuring that as long as I disconnect the batter to reset the computer I should be ok. Or have people with this setup seen issues?

Please don't go into the HC or No HC debate, kinda just looking for this peticular setup and if people have seen issues, ive read all the debates already, LOL

Thanks

I watched one dynoed stock and then the cold air K&N kit installed and it picked up something like 15 hp w/o a tune on 87.
Michael
PS. No HC trap.

Anyone in the club? I met a younger guy on the street the other day with a black one that said he was putting down 277 at the rear wheels with only the K&N aircharger.

I'm curious where the best place to get the K&N setup is. I saw Summit has them for about $290, is that about the same for everywhere else?

I asked this same question awhile back. From the response I got I found it as low as 239 at http://www.highhorseperformance.com shipping was 20 bucks there for a total of 259. Also had suggestions of http://www.martelbrothers.com which has it for 260 free shipping (this is who I went with)
http://www.rpmoutlet.com has a great price of 500 for the kit plus the predator tuner, thats about 160 bucks off the tuner or the kit whichever way you want to look at it.

No not in the club, it was a young guy and I believe it was his first time at Supertune. He had purchased his 05 from a guy going to Iraq and yes it was black. Might be the same guy. It made up my mind to go with a cold air kit.
Michael
PS. I think he said around $300. He had 87 and they could not bump the timing without detonation.

Is there any worry that a cold air kit will not allow the engine to properly regulate air temperature, particularly when it starts getting cold outside, thus causing some engine problems? This is something I have heard, but I have no clue myself.

have it with the HC in, no problems, plan on taking it out and see how it does when I get my next oil change, I got it off Martel Brothers also for $260 with free shipping, best deal that I've found, but so far no problems with the K&N, Love It!

I ran the K&N CAI without the trap or tune with no problems and good performance. The problems started when I loaded tunes. This thing wants to ping with both the Diablo and SCT tunes. This will all be fixed as soon as these people start working with this setup on a dyno. Great setup for those who do not want to tune.

Yep, I was wishing by typing it the price would go down, didn't seem to work :bang:

I edited my original reply so the prices are correct

Yea I am planning on getting a tuner down the road once the cash is right for me. By that time I'm sure they will have tunes out for the K&N since it might not be til next summer for me.

Got my K&N for $199 at brother's performance. Their website said it was $260, but I called and got it for $199.

Have been running it without the HC trap on a Diablosport 87 and 91 octane tune. Runs like a champ.

Have been trying to get DTP Racing's custom tune for the K&N installed...and I keep going in to failsafe mode and the car shutting off.

I have the K&N aircharger but with a Predator (canned tune 87) I plan in a few weeks to get a Dyno of my K&N with and without the HC trap. I want to see how much it may run my car lean or rich. As of right now my car came with the HC trap and before I ordered the K&N I took it out of my ORIGINAL air box. Car ran great. Once I installed the K&N as per the instructions I placed my HC trap back in.
So once I get my car dynoed with and without I will be sure to post my findings.
Hope this helps.

I'd love to find out how much difference that makes. I'm thinking I'm going to go with the $499 deal at RPM Outlet so I can get the tuner for $240. I'm not going to tune right away, but I'd like to have it for when I get my exhaust so I can do everything at once. That's even a better deal if you consider the $337 price AutoZone gave me on just the intake kit.

Come'on vacation pay!

I've got the K&N kit in with no H/C trap in for 1500 miles and no problems. Everything is great!

I have had the K&N for about a month now and no problems. I got it from brothers for $199.00. The H/O question is curious, because as I started to read the threads that some of the cars are coming with out them and when it was installed I did not see it with the left over air box, I assumed that it was in with the new kit, but I actually don't know?? I'll have to open her up. One thing is for sure, after I had that thing put on it took off like a rocket, the throttle response was there and I don't have a tune.
