question about parasitic drivetrain loss

i have an auto tranny gt. i am planning on getting an intercooled whipplecharger next month. i know that the auto tranny is on the weak side.

question: if after i put the blower on, i get a 1 piece driveshaft and say it increases rwhp by 10, will that increase the strain on the tranny and the engine too? i wasnt sure about this, since the driveshaft is after the engine and tranny.

sorry for the ignorant question and i appreciate any help i can get.

If the one piece drive shaft nets you 10 RWHP, only the rear end will see it, the engine and transmission already have.

correct
the engine is already making the same HP lightening the drivetrain allows the engine to put more of the power to the wheels instead of turning heavy drivetrain parts. this makes the engine rev faster when in gear thus making the car accelerate faster.
duno results from my driveshafts are not reflective of the 1/4 mile and SOTP improvements that are common...8-10hp gain but e.t.'s will drop roughly 2 tenths at the track some cars even more.

Can you please explain the "weak side" comment??
Do you mean it's worn out from usage?
Or are you assuming that the auto is "weaker" than a stick?
I'm trying to better understand your question.

thanks for the replies people. i appreciate it. spyder and radboss, thanks, that helps a lot.

sharky, tranny is running fine. from my understanding, the auto tranny is "weaker" than the manual tranny. the auto is not able to support as much power as the manual tranny can.

what i am planning on doing is getting a whipplecharger intercooled kit next month. i am not sure if this is correct, but i have heard that with the auto, you should not go over 450 rwhp and 450 rwtq. so my goal is to get as close to those numbers without going over. then i was thinking of adding a 1 piece driveshaft which i was hoping wouldnt add to the strain of the tranny, but would give me more power.

not sure if i made myself any clearer this time. kind of hard for me to explain since i dont really know what i am talking about.

the torque converter is probably the weaker link than the transmission. After my whipple, my converter started slipping a bit.

At 450 HP the tranny might not be the issue as much as your bottom end?

the clutches in the converter for lockup can only take about 200ft lbs. of torque reliably. PI now has a 2 or 3 disc lockup converter. My tci is holding up fine but I'm still N/A although very aggresive with lock-up schedules so If I ever do spray it or go with any type of FI it will need to be replaced.

tranny's weak point would be shifting into 3rd and 4th, both are synchronous shifts, I've read a lot of posts about losing 3rd gear on the 5r55s.

I have also read that upgrading your TC and installing a larger pan with a transmission cooler will go along way to preventing that which makes sense to me, transmision's biggest enemy is heat.

I burnt mine 3rd gear band up after 1500 miles, 6 runs at the strip and some aggressive street driving. I did add a deep dish pan and and taken it easy, can't afford a trans. rebuild until next spring. This was with 455 rwhp tune.

+1 to that.

My trans has been abused probably more than just about any one... 32K miles and 900 runs total. And about 16K miles and 600 runs has been supercharged. I haven't broken it yet. The POS converter I had in there before did hurt the front pump, but it was an easy fix. I just put in a new PI triple disc TC a couple weeks ago. So far I'm liking it.
