Just wondering what people with CMCV plates are doing when they take their cars into the dealer for any work. Is it safe to switch back to a stock tune and drive with CMCV plates installed?

 

The best thing to do if you install the delete plates is to not tell the dealer you have them and request that they don't reflash your computer. It is your car, you have the right to tell them not to touch the computer unless the warranty work specifically pertains to the computer and/or emissions.

 

Luckily, I haven't had to take it in. If I did, I'd leave them in there and not worry about it. If the problem stemmed from the delete plates, I'd take care of the problem myself, rather than trying to have the dealer fix my mess up. If the problem has nothing to do with the delete plates, like something with the suspension, I wouldn't say a word about them and just let them take care of the problem. If I'm having a problem that might require a re-tune, then I would ask them to let me know before any re-tuning is done.

Now, if there was a problem with the engine that I know that the delete plates didn't cause, but I think they might try to blame it on them, then I'd probably remove them and return the car back to stock before taking it in to them.

Edit again, I would not drive around with the delete plates installed with no tune. It "might" be ok for a very short distance staying in low RPM's, but I wouldn't risk it. The tune actually makes adjustments to the air/fuel tables, not just turn the actuator motor off.

 

The CEL would definitely come on and you'll probably trigger fail-safe mode. If they re-flash your car with an update, you will also not be able to re-load your tunes anymore.

 

I've been debating getting these because of annual emissions testing as well, but I just read that they have extended the exemption period to 7 years for new vehicles! I'm ordering parts right now!
