Quarter Mile Time
#81
before everyone starts yelling "LS1 killer" or especially "Vette killer", by MT's own admission:
On the dragstrip, our Trans Am ripped 0-60 mph in 5.0 seconds and cleaned up the quarter mile in 13.5 seconds at 107.4 mph.

this was for a 2000 Trans Am which has less HP than the 2001+ which came with the LS6 intake. Note the trap speed and the fact that its at least 8mph above the new Mustang, throw some DR's on that thing and assuming the rear end held up you could be running easy 12's stock. Don't be shocked when you go out in your new Mustang and the LS1's are still walking all over you, even assuming somehow you can find an unmodded one to race.
That being said, I love the new Mustang and I WILL own one someday, it just pisses me off that Ford keeps putting us in catch up mode performance wise :bang:

rhumb, were definately much much closer to the improved live axle you describe. It does use some aluminum components to reduce the upsprung weight which helps, though it also uses some heavier materials. I'm sure this is a strength/cost issue.
Either way, it seems to perform better then the Cobra's IRS which is quite an accomplishment IMO.
Most people who have driven the car/have the car are saying they notice the absence of axle hop. This is very encouraging.
For me, this live axle setup is the best of both worlds. I appreciate striaght-line performance and like the strenght and launch capability of the live axle, but want the car to handle well. I'll wait to get mine to make a final judgement but from my short test drive it felt more stable, little body roll and quite tight though the one large curve I took.
rhumb, you should go find one for a test drive...I'd be curious to see what your impressions are.
