Pypes headers

Anyone running these and if so, what are your thoughts? I am debating getting a set, but DO NOT want that nasty rasp exhaust sound. I currently have stock headers, but do have a Pypes off road H pipe (no cats either). I had to add resonators just to chill the rasp, so I cant imagine it getting any better..

i have these on my car. they are exact copies of the kooks headers and are make of a good grade of stainless. they will not rust. the fit was perfect. rasp is not that bad to me and i have the x pipe and mac axle backs. with the resonators you should not have much at all. what mufflers are you running?

I love flows but not on these cars. Try a different muffler.

Kinda agree but the rasp is strictly from the pypes off road. Soo am I assuming right that the pypes offroad piece that comes with the headers would be the exact same one? Guess i need to go OBX and some maggies

Hey Colby,
I don't really think since you are already running off road setup that adding longtubes will really NOT change the tone of your car that much. If you like the sound now you will be good to go. Adding longtubes will allow you maybe to hear each cylinder fire a little better but nothing bad will happen. Trust me.

Its probably a combo of the flows and offroad pipe. Swap mufflers and im sure you will be fine. H pipes usually give a deeper sound but im not sure with flows. I wasn't a big fan of the american thunders with my prochamber

Could be the flows for sure..Although even the stock mufflers had some rasp after installing the Pypes H pipe. I just want to get rid of the rasp all together. Do you think a muffler can help that much? Realizing that I have 18" resonators installed currently just to help with the rasp..well not to mention my car was Soooo loud with the flows. Loved the sound until the Rasp hit. I actually like the throaty sound of the flows, but the H pype is killing it, yet I dont want to go back to stock with the cats..

Any thoughts? Would getting a complete header set that came with a new H pipe fix this? Thinking either the Kooks, Pypes or OBX...And yes I know Pypes is the same as Kooks but Pypes is A)half the price, but B) most likely same H pipe, so strike 1.

get the pypes you won't be sorry. then if you are not going to use the same h pipe you have now and worried about rasp go with a mac prochamber or a bassani mid pipe.

I would take a highflow catted pipe over offroad pipes with resonators any day! If it were me I would put highflow cats on there, take the resonators off and see wat happens. If there is still rasp ditch the flows! Thats me though..

Hey Colby...
Let me give you "exhaust 101" lesson. The "RASPY" crap you don't like is created because of an open (no backpressure) style exhaust. Which you now have. There is one thing... and one thing only that will stop the rasps! "Backpressure" of some type. This will only come from three sources. Mufflers, cats or resonators. Pick whatever brand of headers you want. It will not get any better regardless of brand. Next is type of midpipe. An X-pipe will always make the rasps worse. An H-pipe will always be better and tend to have a lower tone. Brand makes no difference. You need to decide if you want to run high flow cats in your midpipe. Your next defense against the rasps are your muffler choice. It takes a chambered muffler if you haven't chosen cats or resonators. Now you know why I chose the Maggies. They are great to my ear but some feel they are too quite for their tastes. Then there is the last choice that you already made... resonators. I also ran a Prochamber for a while. It will deaden the raspy crap a little but not completely. So your choices come down to CATS, chambered mufflers or resonators to fix the rasps. It's not your choice of headers or midpipe that is the problem.
