At home I have a problem with scrapeing the driveway (apartment complex) when I come in/out and it's hard to get an angle when your going up a ramp with walls on the sides.. So I need to raise the car up an inch or so roughly so I don't scrape. Rims/tires are the obvious choice for that little bit of clearance..

Car is lowered on Eibach Pro-sport springs....
Tires will be Nitto 555's or any recommendation you may have?
Occasional track use and daily driving to/from work.

18x10's Rear - I want the tread to at least be a full 10" wide.

I don't know which size would best fit.

I just bought the same wheels, and I am looking at the Falken 615 tires in a 295/40/18 out back and 255 up front.

Either that or Nitto 555 (non drag) 275/45 in front and 295/45 out back. But the Nittos run small. They are a little cheaper, but I like the Falkens better for cornering.

Get steeda ultralite springs. They don't lower the car as much as the Eibach's do.

 

Same here! The Black DD 18x9/10 rims should be sitting on my porch right now. The BFG KDW2s will be here Wednesday. 285/40 rear and 255/45 front. This is for all practical purposed the same overall diameter as the stock 17" with 235/55. Another good calculator: 1010tire

 

I'm looking for that one extra inch of clearance afforded by buying 18" rims over a 17" rim. So keeping the exact ratio with stock 17's is not necessarily what I want.

what size would allow me to utilitze the extra inch of rim size?

 

By these calculations with the first calculator... I should use 295/45 18 to get .628 inches of extra clearance on the rear...

What size to get that extra clearance on the front?

I think .6 inches will get me the clearance I need for my driveway and pretty much an place i've had a problem.

 

I have the nitto nt 555's and love them.

 

Just remember- if you are looking to raise the car with tires, you are only going to to get HALF the difference of the diameter in lift!

Be careful running larger diameter tires in the front- there is not a lot of clearance between the bottom of the spring seat adn the top of the tire.

You would actually be better off in every way to install different springs (like the Steeda Ultralites) to get a smaller drop, and then stick with 27 inch tall tires.

 

I have 265/40/17 Front with 555s 305/45/17 rear with DRs I like them and they are tall. This is almost a have to case if you have LCA relocation brackets.

 

I am facing the same problem with the drivway scraping (but not lowering the car just lower pipes) and since the tires height size gets smaller as you go up in tire size (say 235 to 285) it seems that you won't gain any clearance even if you go to 18's because the tires get shorter in height when you order wider tires. I'm not tire expert but I noticed that the tires get thiner as they get wider and that would defeat the purpose I think. I hope I'm wrong because I want wider tires also.

 

There should be plenty of clearance in the front, as long as you don't go too wide (255 should be great). I had a set of 22" rims (255/35-22 tires) on the car last week for SEMA, and drove it around town a bit with no rubbing. They did raise the car a bit, as overall diameter of that tire is 29" versus the 27" of the tires I have now (255/45-18). There was still at least an inch to the spring pearch on the strut, and it wasn't close to rubbing anywhere else.

So overall, these rims/tires raised my car 1" overall (half the diameter difference) and since I'm still on my stock suspension, made it look pretty tall. But if you want half an inch raise in the front, go for a tire that's 1" larger in diameter (255/50-18 would do it in front).

Also remember, when you change the overall diameter you affect how the speedo reads. If you have a tuner you should be able to change that in the computer, so the speedo can adjust for it, otherwise you might be going faster than the speedo says.
