How much will the Prothane motor mounts lower the engine? I have seen pics of the JDM modified motor mounts, and it looks like they are about 1/2" lower than the un-modified ones.

Just wondering what the difference is.

Seriously, though, when I did mine, it didn't alter the motor height any that I could tell...

 

Depends on which ones you buy...... if you buy the "lowered" ones from JDM, you'll be about 1/2 lower. If you buy the off-the-shelf Prothanes from any other vendor, they will RAISE the engine about 1/4". Both myself and 70MACH1OWNER found this out the hard way- me even more so because I had to remove them and cut them down about 3/8" to get the Saleen blower to clear. In his case, he had to remove a spacer that he was using to raise his CDC shaker assembly.

 

+1 ^ I agree 200% !! I know the standard Prothanes measure the same as the stock hydra mounts because I checked them. But the weight of the engine must squish the stock mounts down about a 1/4 inch.

is there or could there be any thing wrong with lowering the engine? Are there any draw backs? Will it mess with the drive shaft angle?

 

Hey 70MACH1OWNER , here is a question for ya!

 

Yes they will but... as Tom281 and I found out they will raise your engine about 1/4 inch so you Shaker will rub the hood. If you have some you know that can mill off about 1/4 to 3/8 inch from the top of them than that is what I would suggest. Otherwise just get the JDM lowered mounts and shim up your shaker!!!

Nope....1/2 inch over the length from the rear of the motor to the front of the differential will not change the pinion angle squat. Trust me!! You want the exact angle change...than give me some measurements!!! But trust me...it won't be anything to worry about!!

As noted previously, I cut my mounts and have no ill effects.

 

I can also confirm the Prothane mounts will raise the engine. During my turbo install I put in the Prothane mounts and then couldn’t get the cold side piping to line up correctly. In my case the mounts raised the engine almost ½ inch and with all the angles involved the piping just wouldn’t line up correctly. It took a while going back and forth with the kit maker to finally figure out the problem.
