Popping my Mod Cherry!!!!!
Popping my Mod Cherry!!!!!
Hey all, been lurking here for months now, reading all the great posts and using the information to make my own decisions. WHat started out as a daily driver here in New Jersey has been put away for the winter. Still not sure how I feel about it, not much fun jumping in a POS Saturn knowing my baby is in the garage! Thanks TacoBill for making me so envious I had to put it away.
Anyway, here goes... Just received my Hurst Short Throw, FRPP/Borla Stingers due tomorrow, and a SCT XCal 2 being programmed for use with my new C&L CAI, both from Brenspeed.
I can't wait to get started, have all the install threads already printed and ready to go, only thing left to find is the Pocohantas fender cover. TacoBill, any chance of you sharing that trade secret????
Big NY Giants fan here, so I guess the portable will need to be moved to the garage since I plan on being in there until everything is done!
These forums are great, and I appreciate everyone sharing their knowledge and experiences. Keep 'em coming, because as long as I can keep my wife from strangling me, I'm gonna keep modding!!!!!!

I have all three of those mods. Shifter is cool, way better than stock. Notchy, but in a good way. Stingers help sound somewhat. CAI and Tuner is by far the best. You have got to use Brent's 93 Performance tune. Once you load this you'll be like who needed 3 tunes?
Thanks for the vote of confidence. A little nerve racking since these are my first mods. Gary, did you notice a significant difference once you loaded the tune with the CAI? Also noticed you have the 4.10s. Plan on doing them next. Pretty dissapointed with the 3.31s stock. How do you like the new gears?
Check out my comments on this link. I think it'll explain quite a bit.

For me gears came first so I could really see that difference. The tune was also a huge difference. I love all of these mods. The shifter alone was worth it. I've driven lots of manuals in my life and the shifter on my 1992 Escort felt better.
Hey good luck to you and your Giants, its really weird saying that as a life long Cowboys fan, but hey I think Strahan's been a pretty cool guy, and I'd love to see Eli get the naysayers off his back for good instead of just the past 4 or 5 games. I gotta say though its probably just because I hate those **** dirty playing, HGH in the butt, got caught cheatin' Patriots. They're like the
modern day Raiders or something.

Congrats, those mods are great. I drove a Stang with the Hurst, it was awesome! Your mods should be relatively easy to install, so good luck. And go Giants (one and only time, cuz I hate the Patriots with a passion)
If you install the exhaust before the cai/tune you will notice a deeper note, the engine will sound more open up. That was the first thing that I noticed after my cai/tune install. Once I loaded the 91 performance tune I could def feel the difference in power...
Hey Al I know I'm pretty much a newbie too, and although i would not consider myself to be an idiot, I was very wary of touching a brand new car to modify it. By nature I design and oversee the construction of new homes. I was brought up in that industry and have had several different jobs for different trades. I figured some guys grow up with a hammer and some grow up with a wrench. I could change oil easily and point to some car parts, but thats about it.
So heres a couple of snags I ran into in doing these exteremly simple mods.
First of all the MAF, that you will remove from the old intke and put into the new. Pay careful attention to the way you took it out, it doesn't work so good when you put it in upside down. The car wouldn't start, well it would start but run for like 2 seconds. At first I was like, great bad tune, but luckily I quickly figured it out and fixed it.
Also the shifter posed a problem because for some reason the instructions call for the small part of the shifter that the billet arm attaches to to face one way when it should face the other. If you look at it on the model I had there are some ridges at the bottom of the billet arm that attach to the body of the shifter and they have to mate up on ridges on that piece. Sitting in the drivers seat the billet arm should mount on the passenger side of this piece, because if you mount the upper arm on the drivers side the shifter becomes way to close to the drivers side of the console and rubs, I had to rotate this piece and problem solved.
Stingers, first mod I did myself, didn't have any problems other than retightening after I had driven the car and let cool down. Stingers sound great with stock setup IMO, however I just put on LT headers and I'm a little concerned not with the noise, but with the tone I guess. I keep wanting to get my wife to drive the car and follow so I can see what its like from behind, but one of us is always to busy.
I guess I'm not a true forum guy because I have yet to post pictures or any videos of my car yet. Right now I'm waiting for Monday Feb. 11th to hve the spoiler repainted at a good body shop because the guy I gave a few bucks to paint on the side did a **** job. Lesson learned there.
Well dude good luck again, and also mad props to Taco Bill and the others who post pictures of their installs like Lowes because these are the guys that helped me Mod my Stang.

Hey Gary. That's exactly how I feel. Not my first time under the hood, or the car for that matter, but those times where on older cars, and for maintenance or repair, not changing a new car.
Thanks for the tips, once again I am reminded why I read these thread all the time, so many members willing to share.
As for no pics or vids, I'm sure you'll get some up. The only reason I had one to put as an avatar was because I spent so much time with my CS when i first got it, my wife went out and took a pic and told me to put it in a frame to look at so I would spend more time in the house with the family.
Doesn't look like I'll be seing the CAI until early next week, but I'm all set for the shifter and stingers so I'll post how it came out sometime this weekend.
Thanks again!

Yeah my wife calls my car my mistress. And when people call she says I'm out with my mistress and I'll call back later and they're like "WHAT?"
Is it just me, but if you walk by the car don't you just look at it a little longer and stare at the lines with pride and admiration.
I must admit and this isn't meant to be weird but sometimes at a light or when I'm just sitting in it I'll just touch that Hurst shifter **** a little bit, so she knows I still love her
, you know? Of course I'm talking about my mistress, the car.

I know exactly what you mean. When the neighbors comment about me messing with the car all the time my wife says 'that's his redhead'
I figure as long as she let's me spend time with her (the car), I'm OK with it too!

And I thought I was the only one who feels the love. I get the rolling eyeballs every time I show someone pictures from every possible angle. Just ordered my CAI, Throttle body,Boomtubes, and shaker intake adapters to utilize the shaker with a much better Granatelli CAI. Winter is a bummer; too cold to start wrenching. 2 more months to buy Hi-flow catted X-pipe, underdrive pullies, & those nifty sequential taillights. Most women don't seem to care as much about mods...go figure

Hey welcome Patrick!!!!! Do yourself a favor......don't try to figure out why women don't understand about your passion to mod your car. I have been married for almost 33 yrs. and I have seen about 1 million miles of eye rolling!!!!
Scott
I know what you mean about the winter Patrick, yuck!! Couldn't take the wait though, and two of my three mods are in!!!!!!
C&L due on Tuesday, but the Husrt shor throw and stingers are in. Out-friggin-standing is all I can say!
OK, now the noob flaming can begin...
Started with the short throw, nice and easy, except.....
This is the first time I've garaged a car. Got it all installed, checked all the gears, ready to give it a test drive. Turned the key and all I heard was a clunk.
So many versions of the instructions, wrong offset, new instructions, correct offset, did I do something wrong?!?!?!?!?!
Battery was drained from sitting so long.
Finally got the courage to let it clunk a few times and... vrooom!!
Guess I know now get a battery mate or start the car once a week.
Anyway, everything came out great. Love the shifts, and the sound has a lower, more aggressive tone. Tuesday can't come fast enough now.
So now a request for some help... what do I get next? UDPs? CMDPs? Gears?
I like the look of the car, so I'm concentrating on more Go than Show, for now anyway...
Although I'd be interested in opinions on a new hood I'm looking at getting. Cervinis '67 Style Hood. If you haven't seen it, you can find it here: https://www.cervinis.com/product.asp...1&id=1208#1166
If you have it, would love to hear what you think, and pics would be great!

When we put on the exhaust, I thought it was way to loud and wanted to change it. She wouldn't let me.
Nice to hear Steved. I'm no where near that type of commitment, but I have to admit, I had my wife rev the car before and after the stinger install so I could get a better feel for the change, and she told me she really liked the feeling of power she got behind the wheel.
