Which is performance meter is better?
Is the GTech worth the extra $100? Seems the only difference is the software that comes with the GTech. Any opinions will help. Thanks!

The only difference between the two is that the GT2 holds the last 10 runs whereas the GT1 only holds the last, with the GT2 you can download run data to a PDA or computer (you have to buy an optional cable) and the GT2 has a cool blue display that is easy to read. Other than that, they are the same and display the same data.
Glad you're considering getting one -- let me know what you think if you do get one. I really like mine! It's fun and it beats the heck out of going to get a dyno everytime you add a mod, plus you can use it to do practice runs and see your improvements before heading to the track.
[B]Oops -- re-read the post. I compared the GT1 & GT2. I haven't heard of the GTech model....
I have also been thinking of getting one. I'll be curious to see what everyone who has one says. How does everyone who has one like them, and what are the prices and differences of all of them? There are 3 now?
The top end GTech is better than the GTimer, as it can detect your RPM by listening to the noise coming through the power cord (it fails on some cars that have extremely clean and quiet electrical systems).
I own the GTimer, and it's good enough for what I want to do.
The biggest difference is the software. The software that comes with the GTimer stinks, and the software that comes with the GTech looks a lot more professional (I haven't used the latter, but I can tell you that the GTimer software stinks).

I don't need anything fancy though, so the GTimer is probably good for me. I just need to be able to get some numbers before/after mods and so I can get a fairly accurate idea of where I'm at. If I just want to take a run here and there, the GTimer should be fine, right? And as far as software, do I even need it? Will the GTimer tell you HP, Torque and 0-60 right there on the unit?
I just ordered the G-Timr Gt1 for $99 plus $12 for Fed-Ex 2nd day shipping from a website. Best deal I could find. I don't need any special software or extras. 2005 Black GT... as far as how it works, The G-Timers simply plug into your vehicle's lighter socket, and mount to the windshield with the included suction cup. The timers work using miniature internal solid-state sensors. You can measure 0-60 times, cornering G-forces, braking distances, maximum horsepower, and more.
The newer devices will obviousely be better due to the later technology. I'm sure accuracy will pretty much be the same. I have had a G-Tech 1 for about 7 years now and it still helps me practice my launches and gives me a pretty good idea where my 1/4 mile times should be. It has probably been my best car investment and I use all the friggin time.
It has no dyno capabilities.... It's strictly 0-60, 1/4 mile. Thats all I care about really. I don't care if my car has 300 or 600 horsepower, I want to know how fast I can get it to run.
however, I DID get to make a run at my local drag strip with my G-Tech 1 in the car. It was a few years back in one of my mustangs. I passed the 1/4 mile mark at the track and looked at my G-Tech and it was flashing 13.8sec (I forget the miles per hour). I pulled around the track to the booth to get my timeslip and it said I ran a 13.8. So that confirmed my G-Tech 1 is bad hiney! I remember the mile per hour was 1 mile off. I think it was 1 mile per hour higher on my G-Tech. I trust it every time I run.

The Gtech will give you horsepower, torque, 60ft, 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile, 0-60, 0-100, and handling G's.
Supposedly very accurate too:
Measurement Device 0-60 mph 1/4 mi. E.T. 1/4m Speed Horsepower Torque RPM Cost
G-TECH/Pro (SS & RR)
Performance Meter +/- 0.2mph +/- .01sec +/- 0.4mph +/- 1% +/- 1% +/- 2%

Sorry, I didn't mention the "other" things it is capable of measuring. I feel the horsepower device was way off, since we ran my friends stock 04' Cobra and it said 425 Horsepower, lol..... I really only care about 0-60 and 1/4 mile, so thats what I mainly use, although it is kinda fun to see how much G-Force the car produces every now and then. It is capable of measuring all the stuff mentioned above though.
Well, the car should have read approx 250 HP so it was off by almost 20 HP. Of course we may have entered in the wrong information as far as weight and stuff..... but we weighed the cars at a local scale and the weight entered in was accurate. Maybe we goofed somewhere else. Now, I remember having an accurate # that same day on my 5.0 but his Cobra read insanely high for stock. Maybe there was a glitch in the Matrix.... ?
I ordered a Gtech Pro RR yesterday, and had my stock GT weighed today. Weighed in at 3,480lbs with a half a tank of gas. Over a thousand lbs less than the factory sticker on the side of the door sill. I'm getting it dyno'd Friday and I'll check those results with the Gtech. Next week I am expecting C&L's CAI and Diablo tuner. Then I'll have it dyno'd again. Can't wait.
