Painting Light Bulbs...
Painting Light Bulbs...
I have a set of yellow halogen bulbs for my GT fog lights, but I don't really want the light to appear all yellow-y, I just want them to emit yellow light when I need them. So my very strange question is: has anyone ever painted the solid end of a halogen bulb? Not the clear part, but the tip that's obviously been coated with something. On my bulb it's yellow, but I'd rather it be silver or white.
I know this is a seemingly rediculous idea, but it seems like it shouldn't be a problem with high temp paint. Or am I just on crack and I need to stop thinking about doing this...?

The paint would most likely just burn off and probably damage the bulb in the process. Halogen bulbs usually come with instructions that state that you are not supposed to touch the glass portion of the bulb. This is because the oil from your skin left on the glass will burn much hotter than the other areas of the glass and possibly cause it to crack. I can't see paint doing it any good either.
Understandable, but I'm not talking about the glass portion of the bulb. the bulbs (I think my Sylvania Silverstars had this too) have what looks like a painted end on the glass portion of the bulb (like the light was wearing a hat). I'm asking if it's possible, or if anyone has in the past, painted the hat?
I'm feeling stupider by the second with this thread... lol

That "paint" is most likely a ceramic coating. I do not recommend doing anything to the bulb surface or even painting that cap. The cap is opaque and you can turn it into Mystichrome and it still would not affect the color of the light.
ahh, I see where you're going with that. Actually I'm not in any way trying to alter the color of the emitted light from the bulb, just the reflected color the bulb makes sitting in the fog light when it's not on. I like the light looking pretty white, but I have a yellowish bulb, so I figured the fog light will look yellowish because of the bulb (again, when it's NOT on), I'm not even that sure how visible it'll be anyway, I just started the thread because I'm just curious. Don't have the car yet, so I can't try it for myself.
Anyone know how hot on average most (H10) bulbs get in terms of temp?

Hey Mack,
Try getting some "stealth" bulbs. There's probably a lot of places you can get them, but I've seen them at Mr. Bodykit.

And scroll down to the bottom of the page. There's a bunch of pics and stuff about the stealth bulbs. They are clear when off, but turn yellow when on.
I think that's what yer looking for, right?

That would work if they were H10 bulbs, but unfortunately, they're corner lights. I'll keep looking though, and I'll see what the bulbs look like in the fogs.
thanks for the advice you guys!
