Finally put the odometer over the 1000 mile point.

I changed the oil and filter and switched it over to Amsoil XL 7500 5W20 with the Amsoil filter.

I have Amsoil in all my vehicles and 2 cycle engines.

I have read on several forums that a lot of you use Mobile1, does anyone else use Amsoil??

Just curious.

Mike

Had good luck with Mobil 1 in my last car, even with the 10,000 mile factory suggested drain intervals compression was like new at 78,000 miles when I traded it in. Even use Mobil 1 in my John Deere. Still trying to make up my mind on the Mustang regarding oil brand...2212 miles and counting. Not much time for Mobil to start making 5W-20 before I have to make the switch...floating between royal purple/amsoil or whatever brand of full synthetic they offer at the dealer.

One thing my dealer pointed out was that Ford changed the wording of the warranty terms/conditions from: not following the manufactures required maintenance schedule of fluid changes and inspections "might" void warranty of said parts to "WILL" void warranty on parts involved. You have to get dealer stamps in your booklet for service performed.

Conflicting views on 1st drain intervals here:

I know it was a major player in the harley market and it is highly rated. Other than that I can't say but I believe that is comparing green apples to red apples...Both are very good and offer better lubrication than regular oil which should give better protection....AND: If it's good enough for vetts and porches, well.............

Won't a 5W-50 motor oil's higher viscosity (thickness) give better wear protection than Mobil 1 with SuperSyn™ 5W-30 or 10W-30?

SAE grades alone do not measure performance and protection. The basic issue is what SAE rating is best suited for a specific engine design. For instance, high-powered Corvettes are filled at the factory with Mobil 1 with SuperSyn™ 5W-30. All Porsches use Mobil 1 with SuperSyn™ 0W-40.

I think 1000 miles it a bit early to switch to a synthetic oil

I would personally give at least 5000 miles on the engine to break in properly before switiching to the high-end stuff.

Mobil 1 is a great oil IMO.

Changing the oil (even using cheap stuff) on a regular basis will guarantee the engine lasts forever.

You may be right about too soon. I know on harleys it's 500 miles at the minimum before you switch over because all of the moving parts need to "seat" well together and if it's too slick they may not.... 1000 miles may be ok. I guess it would be best to check with the oil & car company sites for more info. Take the high ground from there.

I actually think that's a myth. I know that AMG's, ///M's, Ferraris, LS1's, and LS2's come factory filled with sythetic oils. If it's good enough for them, it will be good enought for my Stang. I will probably run 5 W 30, so I can use Mobil 1. Synthetic is definetly worth the extra money.

AMSOIL a decent performer according to all of the studies I have seen.
The only difference between it and the Mobil1 is that is not API certified.

you might want to consider staying with the factory recogmended 0w30 on this motor since the bering clearances are so tight in all a thicker oil might not lube it good enough I.E. 5w20

just my take on it

EDIT: not sure if it recogments 0w20 or 0w30 but i do know its one of them two
EDIT2: never mind post its acually 5w20 i looked in the manual like a dork i should have looked first so how i had 0w20 in my head huh who knows
