Our 8.8 rear end uses the 28 spline axles, right?
Stock is 28 spline. An upgrade would be to 31 spline. I`m pretty sure of that. You should also check out the Auburn Ected differential. Acts as a true LSD until you lock it up. Then it`s locked tight. I`ve done some research and can`t find any instances of failure so far. And the price is very reasonable. Around $600.00 I think. 31 spline axles shouldn`t cost you more than $350.00 to $400.00 for a street/strip type replacement.

P.S.- And definitaly ditch the stock two-piece drive shaft. A good one-piece alum. unit shouldn`t cost more than $600.00

31 Spline, got it! If the Spydershaft turns out to be balanced (I got a "murmur" at 100+ mph - on closed roads, naturally
), then I'm replacing the stock LSD with a Detroit Truetrac when I do my 4.10's....
That`s a good way to save money on labor. I may try to do that myself. I`m seriously looking at the Auburn Ected differential. Hopefully there will be more user reviews out before I do that. It seems like a really neat unit. Regular clutched LSD when unactivated and totally locked with the flip of a switch. I don`t see how it could get any better. I wonder how it would stand up to power on the street.

I want the Torsen or Truetrac because both don't use clutch packs, they use parallel helical gears...hence nothing to wear out and need replacing...and the diff fluid doesn't require a friction modifier.
You should do other stuff untill you really need it
For now its like going out of your way to find $400 lug nuts. I guess if you're doing gears though, but sounds pricey for little difference in a n/a car.
I grenaded my 8.8/28-spline 2pinion trueTrac. I think they're poorly designed copies of the Zexel/Gleason/Toyoda Torsen differential. I know how they work and why they're supposed to be better. However, the torque biasing from a Torsen is inferior to that of a viscous coupling limited slip, especially one with the carbon fiber clutches.
