I ordered my Motive 3.90 Gears today.

I'll be itaking them to a shop to be installed on my 05 GT automatic ASAP.

I'll let you know how it feels !!

I already have an SCT Excalibrator so changing the speedo should be a snap.

I look forward to your impressions!

What did they quote you for labor? I was quoted $350 to drop 4.10's in my manual GT.

YES, waiting anxiously!...Where did you order the gears from and did you need any additional items such as a shim kit etc>?

Does anyone know how much can changing the diameter of the rear tires impact the ratio? As compared to changing from 3.73 to 3.90. I'm wondering about the math I suppose.

If it's speedo calibration, SCT Xcalibrator does it automatically with new diameter input to program

I ordered my gear here: http://www.mustangtuning.com/rearend.html

Free shipping too !!!

It'll probably cost me anywhere from $300 - $400 for the install where I live.

I live in the Los Angeles area and the costs are higher for just about everything.

Last time I installed gears in my old '94 Mustang, the installation cost $500. I think I was over charged for that but things are expensive here.

My 3.90 gears are in today !!!

I love em !!!

w00t !!

I highly reccomend 3.90s for automatic 05s

I got it done at Grigsby Automotive (310) 393-3295.

It cost me $360 total (for labor).

I supplied the ring & pinion and the gear lube.

Chris - another good place for gears in the SF Valley is Hoopers. They have a good reputation and were recommended to me by several different Mustang owners in our area back when I had my '00GT.

LB - great news and congrats on the successful gear install. I'm considering gears for my 5-spd - but am a bit hesitant about going all the way up to the 4.10's - I know it would be awesome around town - but I also travel and don't want to be at too high of RPM's in the freeway at "crusing" speeds.....wonder how much difference I would feel with a compromise gearing the 3.90's that's still a bit of a jump from the 3.55's....any thoughts?

Getting anything less than 4.10 for a manual 05 is a waste.

3.90 is good for an automatic since they are 3.31 stock.

Glad you were pleased....I'd agree with the 4.10's on the stick regardless...

Thanks Brad I will check them out...SO lord, no gear whine or any issues?..where did you get it done at also and how much was it?..I am also a bit hesitant about the 4.10's on my 5spd because I am on the fwy 55mi each way to work several days a week and do not want to comprimise my mileage much, thus the reason the 3.90's sounded appealing...Am I wrong in this thinking>

Same with me - I plan on taking long trips in this GT and don' want to compromise the freeway drivability too much. Can anyone tell me the increase in RPM's at 80mph stock vs 4.10's - there must be a formula for this?

I get a little whine when coasting but it's not loud. I'm hoping it'll go away after I break it in.

3.90 is perfect for automatics - even HWY driving.

mine turns about 2900 at 80mph....about 2000at 60mph.....i can live with both for the performance I gained from 0-60....3k rpm is a tad noisy on long trips for extended periods. For owners driving multiple hours every day I would probably suggest the 3.90's as a nice in between alternative....I do very little freeway driving so the 4.10's work well for me..

LordBritish, how easy was it to recalibrate the speedo with the SCT Excalibrater? Also has your gear whine decreased with use? The 3.90's are my next upgrade!
