Nother Predator question this ones a doosey.

Ok,
I got my Predator updated with the latest C&L tunes from the Diablosport website. (I've put the delete plates on hold for awhile)

There are now 6 tunes????
87 Street
91 Street
93 Street
Racer
Automatic
and one last one that I can't remember.

I think I got the 87-93 down pat regarding their purpose.
But what is the difference in the 93 Street and Racer tunes????
And what in the hell is the Automatic tune for? Other than the obvious answer. Does the Automatic tune require 93 Octane?
Why can't they release a faq fwhen they release a change????
Thanks in advance!

Racer tune is specific to the Racer Intake (Black Plastic Tube). As far as Auto, it has to do with modifying the shift points and you have options in regards to RPM or MPH for those shift points. MPH is strictly drag race stuff.

You can run the 93 street and if you want to run 91 octane you can simply take out 2° of timing. That is what I do. If you run the 93 and baby the car, you will get better mileage than running an 87 tune and babying the car. If you do the math, you will get about 2 miles per gallon better. Let's say a gallon of 87 is $3.15 and 93 is $3.50 (for argument). Doing a percentile difference ((High-Low)/High*100%) you will get ($3.50-$3.15)/$3.50 * 100 which will equal 10%. Let's say your getting 22MPG highway with the 87 octane and 26 MPG with the 93 octane. Do the same math (26-22/26*100) and the answer is just over 15%.

This tells you that running premo gives you a 15% increase in mileage with a 10% increase in cost. Therefore, running primo is actually more cost effective. Plus, if you really want to just go, your running a 93 tune!

I run 93 at sea level and drop the 2° timing when I go up in the mountains because they have less air and the pumps only offer 91 octane there (Denver). I have never had an issue and I have 15,700 miles on the car now.

Hope that helps.

Awesome reply! Do you think the Automatic tune wants 93 Octane without manually adjusting the timing?

I have the Auto Tune in the wife's 06 GT Vert and we always put 93 in that one too. I'm fairly certain that when you have the DiabloSport Predator plugged in to the car and you page through the tunes it will give you insight as to what octane the tune requires. It's been a year now and I can't recall for certain, but I believe the timing is bumped up for 93 octane on the auto tune.

You should always run a full tank of the octane you will be tuning to BEFORE you flash the car (ex: run 93 for a tank before flashing the 93 tune). If you run 93 on an 87 tune you will simply just waste money, but it won't hurt anything. If your run a 93 tune on 87 you will have detonation at wide open throttle (WOT).

Run a tank of 93, flash the car, then call 1-800-531-5484 option #1 on Monday as the tech department left for the weekend.

You are truely helpful!!!
I haven't run anyting but 93 since i first set my car up.... about a year ago.
But, I did experience exactly what you are talking about. (1/4 87 3/4 93 = check engine)

Thanks again!
