Nitrous Questions from a Newbie

Hello TMS,

So I'm thinking about putting a nitrous kit in my mustang.
What will I need? Bottle Warmers, Purge, Window Timer, etc?
I'm considering a 75-100 shot. How dangerous will it be for my motor?
Is the install easy? Can I run the kit with a CAI?
I hear of not getting traction on stock tires, so what tires would I need to upgrade to?
What are the best brands for the s197?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for all the questions.

Heres a few of the more popular systems

http://www.compperformancegroupstore...&Store_Code=ZX

http://www.holley.com/02121NOS.asp

http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_...efi_perf.shtml

http://www.barrygrant.com/nitrous/default.aspx?page=96

the nitrous works kit says its for 94 and up, I'm not 100% sure it will work on an 05 and up.

It's not absolutely necessary to use a bottle warmer, but it does help keep the bottle pressure high. Also the purge valve will help release some trapped gasses giving a bit better performace, but not a necessity either.

Any one of the above kits should be good to go out of the box. I wouldn't go over a 100 shot. I would recommend using slicks if you decide to use nitrous and yes it will work with a CAI, you will need to drill a hole in the intake tube and use a tap(depending on how much material you have to work with). I dont have nitrous on my car yet, but from what I've read and if you can get over the colour I recommend the zex kit.

Hope that helps a bit

This is a temporary hijack of the thread but two questions in the same light that were not asked...

1) How many "shots" can you get out of the normal bottle before refill becomes necessary?

Update: It appears that a 10lb bottle will provide 10 75hp shots using ZEX system (6 shots @ 125hp) and will work until bottle is down to 20% capacity.

2) What does it cost for a normal bottle refill?

I would recomend the zex racer kit but plan on buying a new bottle warmer. The one that comes with the kit won't heat up the bottle to get the pressure up. I bought the kit from Doug at Bamachips and he sent me a new tune with the kit. I get about 5-6 passes down the track before a refill is needed. Cost is about 40-50.

The Edelbrock Dry Kit states that it doesn't need a tune????????????
Sounds like bunk to me but if you stayed under a 50HP bump it might be possible. Kinda like a really expensive cheater system.

I think the question shold be "How many shots can you get out of a motor?"
I've seen more perfectly good engines scattered by using NOS than anything else. Domestics, imports doesn't matter, scatters them all.

Even with a conservative dose? 75 shot?

NOS is mainly a dry kit. Wet>Dry.

Please, just please, show me ONE 05+ mustang that blew a motor due to nitrous. Go do some research and actually learn about nitrous and how it works before you start spewing useless "information" about NAAWWWZZZ.

I figured I'd get someone all mad with that. HA!!! GOTCHA!!!! Now take it easy and have good day!
To the original poster:
A 75 shot should be just fine as long as you don't use it excessively. The biggest problem I have seen with all the blown motors was not because of the NOS but because somone's crappy electrical wiring failed and the selonoid that provided the extra shot of gas along with the NOS stopped working. This created a dangerously lean condition that destroyed the engine.
Most car people are not good with wiring. Use solder and heat shrink instead of those stupid crimp connectors and get the appropriate tune and you'll be ok.

Dude take it easy. I have ZERO interest in getting into a p***ing contest with someone who maybe isn't having a good day.
Life's too short to worry about trying to pick fights over something that JUST DOESN'T MATTER.

So I appologize if I offended you or anyone else. I was just trying to have a little fun.

Lots of different places. Depends on where you are for availability. Big cities are much easier. Call up your local speed shops.

alright guys.

so i bought the Holley Nitrous Kit.
http://www.holley.com/02121NOS.asp

i have questions about the installation.
is it easy enough to install by myself?
and should i have a tune/tuner ready before i install it?
or i can just drive the car with the nos installed? but not actually use it?

and if i were to get a shop to install it, how much should it cost?

thanks in advance.
