New tires/wheels...
Ok...so I am thinking about upgrading my tires and rims soon. I want to stay with the stock 17x9's.
What's the widest I can go without having to adjust anything???
Thanks

Stocks are 17x8. I have read various opinions about 275mm. Some people think they are fine, but a majority agree that 275 is too wide and 255 is the wides you should go with that rim size.
Widest rim really depends on the specs and backspacing, but I wouldn't go larger then 10.5 unless it was a forged rim like HRE/iForged and then you could tweak the specs and run an 11inch.
He did say rims and tires....... that said, I'd say 9.5" wide or maybe 10" if you're wanting to do the same size on all four corners. I believe Scott's (70MACH1OWNER)'s wheels are 9.5" wide and he has no problems.
So I am confused. You first say
and then you say
So which one is it? If you stay with the stock rims, 255 is as wide as you can go.

Guess I miss read the original post. I thought he was staying with the stock rim of 17 x 8. I see he said 9 inch. So if he really meant the stock rim size which is 8" wide than 255 is as wide as you should use. On a 9" rim you could use a 275 wide tire. Tom is right I am running 18 x 9.5 rims with 275 all round with no issues.

I'm sorry for the misinterpretation. I was always under the impression that stock was 17x9's. And I am thinking about upgrading to new tires and rims soon, but I want to stay with the same stock size: 17x8's.
I was surprised how much better the cars stance looked with 255's compared to the stock 235's. They are only a little wider when looking at the specs but in person it's definitely a noticeable upgrade
