New to the mustang world!!

I just bought this 05 Mustang Gt premium with 35,000 miles on it rarely driven and with a few tasteful mods on it already. Equipped with kooks long tube headers, magna flow exhaust w/ X pipe, no cats, (which I'm still deciding if I should get high flow cats on it or not), 3.73 gears, 20" foose wheels, short shifter kit, eibach suspension. Unfortunately the guy didn't have any tune done to it. Being that I don't know what it feels like stock, I don't know how much lag it's having. Any recommendations I should do to make this car feel the way it should. Oh I also just bought a C&L racers series CAI but didn't install it yet because it probably would be pointless until I get a tuner. Any advise would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

First things first. Thas a nice mustang. Secondly purchase a tuner and have it tuned right. If you think that car is fun now wait until you have it runningthe way it should.

You say its NOT tuned but has longtube headers, no cats, and 3.73 gears? Does it have a dozen CEL codes? How much is the speedometer off? I'd be leery that it was tuned but he did not sell you the tuner with the car, therefore preventing you to return the car to a stock tune. You should figure that out before you lock a tuner to the car. Perhaps take it to a dealer and have the computer reset so when you get your tuner you will have a fresh computer code for it.

The car is throwing a code for no cats. I live in las Vegas so I had to use o2 simulators to pass smog. Now I had a shop reset the computer to temporarily get rid of the engine light, is that the same thing the dealership would do?

Also the C&L Racers series CAI I bought used for only $75 has a slot which I think is for a mass air flow meter. What does that do and where can I get one and are they all the same or is there one that anybody recommends?

Your car already has a MAF, it needs to measure incoming airflow.

The dealer would reset the computer to the stock tune. What the shop did was clear the CEL codes.

I'd buy a tunner with the tune for the mods you have, and bring it with to the dealer so as soon as ther reflash your computer you can install the new tune without possibly damaging your engine.

Get a tune. You will not regret it...or hurt anything. Better safe than sorry.

Yeah I paid $50 for them and passed smog with no problems. Then after your smog just take them off and your good. They are hard to get your hands on them because they are illegal though.

Due to being excited I want to install my CAI. What would happen if I installed without tuning? Will it mess anything up? Will it just not give me all the power it should? Or will it drop my power?

Check engine light for sure but I think it might mess up your air/fuel ratio cause the inlet tube is bigger. Don't quote me though...

it will make you run lean and can cause detonation. Dont install it until you get a tuner, just not worth it. Did the smog shop give you a A/F ratio? you need to know it to make sure the car is running right.
