I am wanting to to upgrade my exhaust on my 05 and I am curious about this new Flowmaster American Thunder Cat Back kit for the 05. I like the sound of the stock exhaust but I want something just a little bit louder and meaner. Does anyone have this kit and if they do how much louder is it than the stock exhaust. It looks to be reasonably priced compared to some of the other exhaust I've looked at that are just too expensive for me.

I have heard only bad things about Flowmaster's stuff for the '05, including that it actually made the car loose horsepower. If you want something meaner there are a lot of choices out there. Look into the SLP Loudmouth... there is a soundclip on here for that too.

that was with the 40 series. the american thunder kit was designed for the mustang. i have had it for a month now and very pleased with it. it will give a little drone when you are in to high of a gear at low rpm. otherwise the sound at idle is much better & when you hit it the sound is mean. i paid 279 with shipping for the kit & the install was a sinch.

I agree with tx2005gt. I've had the Flowmaster system for about a month now and I'm very pleased with it. It was easy to put on, didn't even need to jack up car and the 4" tips look awesome. Sound is just a little louder than stock, but deeper I think. A little drone at low RPMs so just keep her revved up and it won't be a problem! I also got mine from 21st Century Exhaust for $240 + tax/shipping.

I like how the Flowmaster mufflers are black. Has anyone taken off their exhaust, taped off the tips, and painted the mufflers (and possibly the inside of the tips) with some high temp flat black paint? Any thoughts on this?

I did the high temp paint thing before I installed the Flowmasters. I taped off the tips, used some cardboard and sheets to cover the surfaces I didn't want painted, and then sprayed the backs and bottoms of the mufflers. They did look a lot better in my opinion.
