NEW 2007 LIMITED SLIP 3.55 ONLY by order?
Hi guys, I was looking at a few numbers for the 2007 gt, and there is one that it has as an extra a 3.31 ratio limited slip axle
and another one, just doesnt say anything about it.
but in the ford web page, it states that to get a 3.55 you have to pay 100 bucks, could it be that the one that does not say anything about the limited slip has a 3.55 limited slip from the fabric like the 2005 had?
If someone knowledgeable has an answer it would be great since I am in between two models they fonund me in the dealer for my trade ins..
Thanks a lot guys!

'05 and '06 GT's came standard with the 3.55's. But in 2007 they changed the standard to 3.31's (most likely to help meet gas mileage standards). The 3.55 is now an option you have to pay an extra 100 bucks for.
That's how I ordered my GT. Paid the 100 bucks and got the 3.55's.

Better? Well, it just depends on what you want.
You can get either the 3.31 or the 3.55 in the '07. So if you want slightly better gas mileage, stick with the stock 3.31's.
If you want better acceleration then pay the 100 bucks and get the 3.55's.

My 07'GT 5spd. came with 3:55's at no additional cost.Fortunately they failed and have been replaced with 3:73's under warranty.I had to pay a difference of $23 dollars for the upgrade but it was well worth it.

why didnt you go with 4.10's, i thought that was the best one for the 5 speed, I thought the 373 were the best ones for auto, did you just want to stay conservative? Just wondering, and how do you like the 373's, i just got a set and have the auto, so will be adding shortly. thanks for any info on them.

Ford most likely set the 3.55s as a $87 option due to CAFE. My 00 Crown Vic had optional factory 3.55s, but the gas mileage #s on the sticker were for the stock Vic with 2.73s (18/25). With 3.55s, the window sticker would have been 16/21 (CVPI window sticker). If the civilian Vic had been rated 16/21, it would have most likely have a gas guzzler tax and screwed up Ford's CAFE figures.
If you don't intend to mess with the rear end, get the $87 option. The GTs all have limited slip.

Metroplex: please explain how you figure it is an $87 option? Every brochure and online price quote I've ever seen lists it as $100 option. Not a big difference, just wondering how you got different numbers than everyone else?

Yep. I never pay MSRP.
BTW the limited slip differential on the CVPI is a $87 invoice option (or has been in the past years). I guess "87" is a magical number Your patrol cars normally don't come from the factory with a Traction-Lok differential. They have to be ordered that way. This may have changed for the more recent model years (like 31-spline axles recently became standard, etc...)

guys I am buying a GT, now, can I request ford dealership to change the 3.31's to 3.73's before I pickup the car?
how much a dealer charges for that?
I can't get it as an order because the car is built and in the dealership already
thanks!!!

Which do you prefer... your arms or your legs? Because I'm sure that they're going to charge you that much I paid the $100 for the factory upgrade to the 3.55. Why don't you just wait a while to see if you like the 3.31?

They'll probably charge you around $200+ for parts and then $100-$300 in labor. The 3.31s will give you the best gas mileage but wouldn't be much worse than 3.55s for acceleration. I originally wanted the stock 3.31s, but the $87 for 3.55s was too good of a deal to pass up. I know i'll regret it with low gas mileage though.

If the 3.31 gears are to help with the CAFE numbers, then why does Ford give the customer the option to sidestep it by paying $100? It just seems to me that if it was a CAFE thing then Ford would just say, "sorry guys but that's business". Maybe they still have a warehouse full of 3.55's and need to get rid of them.

If the customer chooses the $87 option, it won't affect the EPA rating on the window sticker. Like I said before, my 2000 Crown Vic came with a sticker that said "18 / 25". Good luck getting 18/25 with the 3.55s that come with the handling package. The only Crown Vic that year to get 3.55s from the factory (NOT part of an option package) standard was the Police Interceptor, which had a window sticker rating of 16/21. My 2000 Vic had OPTIONAL 3.55s (part of the OPTIONAL handling package), so the window sticker rating was for the standard 2.73 ratio!!! My car gets 9-13/18-20 and nowhere near the 18/25. Police cars are not counted in the CAFE figure.
