NC State Insp. Blues.....still did not pass, Kinda
Ok, I failed a week ago after installing LT Headers and a upgraded tune from Doug. I drove it about 120 miles and it still did not have enough data to pass my car. What are my choices?
1. Drive it more?
2. Disconnect the battery and drive it a bunch more?
3. NO frickin clue.

put it up on jackstands with a full tank of gas, put a block on the gas pedal and let it "drive" another 200 miles while parked in the driveway??
how many miles do they say has to be logged for it to be passable??

The "Book" says 20 minutes of stop and go and about 30 miles of highway driving. I did that and more. I am thinking that after i installed the headers and reconnected the battery, I then uploaded the new tune. I am thinking more and more about disconnecting the battery and let it re load all the new parameters....

Well, this is what I did. I disconnected the battery anyway (neg. terminal) and let it clear out and reconnected. I am going to drive the mess out of it over the next week and see what that does. I will keep you all posted.

Here in IL they connect it to the computer and see if any codes show up, if none you pass. When retuned or reset there is a code that tells them that this just happened. I believe that its cleared by key turns rather than miles. Not sure what NJ is checking though. If you have the XCal2 plug it in and check the DTC codes, even though the light is not on you should see this code pop up, if its still in the system, make sure its gone before you go as well.

Wow, I thought OUR inspections here in CA were Draconian.
What exactly are they looking for in NC and IL? (and other states) They check your computer for codes? Your wheel wells for rubber pieces? Do they ask for proof of insurance? Brake wear? Do they check your seats to see if you farted in the car recently?

Stop disconnecting the battery and stop uploading a tune.
In GA, a few times we installed a new battery, and while they were there, they wanted an emissions test. We told them to drive around for a week and come back. The battery swap would clear some stuff out of the computer and the emissions machine would fail the car on lack of previous data.

I hear ya, I just did it to make sure the computer reset without uploading a tune. I am just going to drive it and put on about 500 miles hopefully.
Will taking it to Dyno hurt it or mess it up?

I don't know if you have already seen this but here is the inspections manual for the state of NC: http://www.ncdot.org/dmv/vehicle_ser...nforcement.pdf
There is a section related to OBD testing. You might be getting dinged because a monitor is still set to "not ready", caused by disconnecting the battery. These are usually reset after about 50 miles, as this gives the OBD system enough time and enough data to verify that everything is ok. IMO 500 miles would be overkill, and not produce any different results.
If you google for "OBD emissions inspections", you can find even more information from other states. Other states sometimes provide more details.

I ran it about 100 miles and it still did not have enought data. So I disconnected the battery so It could re set in the event the tune caused a problem in the PCM. I am almost at 200 miles now, I have driven it in town for 45 minutes twice, letting it idle of a while.

New Bern,
It hooks up fine, O2 is good, but it says not enought data yet on the computer, so I am burning it up on miles.
What are your mods?
Is the narrow stock O2 sensor good enought when you re tune and put a set of Long Tubes on it?
65SOHC
State law requires inspections every year and it includes this OBDII inspection.
No way to fudge it, it hooks directly on line with NC DMV after you scan in your car's VIN bar code on your reg. card.
The old lick and stick is gone.

Traffic, I have Hooker LTs, catless X pipe, and an intake. And the factory O2 sensors hooked up fine, though they are now turned off thanks to a tune from Doug I do want to get it on a dyno though, its running rich.

Any problem with your inspections? Did they have problems with your lack of downstream O2 sensors missing?
Thanks

No problems with the inspection. My buddy said that so long as I have no warning lights on, everything else can be fudged. However, I can't recall how long I went after getting the new tune uploaded before I had it inspected. It was not incredibly long though, because the CEL is what was keeping me from getting it inspected to begin with.
