My gas mileage has increased since getting a tune. I was getting around 19 to 22 mpg and now get 23 -26 mpg which is suprising to me because I tend to drive the car harder now after the tune. As for transmission shifting I have noticed that the car does not shift as firm as it did when I first loaded the tune. I contacted Brenspeed and asked them about the adaptive learning and they told me it was disabled along with the torque management. Maybe it is just me getting used to it. I am taking the car to the track Thursday so I will just reload the tune there to make sure.

I've definitely notice a slight increase in fuel mileage. I drive 255 miles round trip every week to work and i notice i have a little more fuel in the tank when i get home. I also notice alot more seat of the pants feeling when i hit the throttle at highway speeds in excess of 60 -70mph. Thnx to Gt. John and Doug at Bamachips! Doug your tunes rock!

If your auto trans tune is like mine the shift scheduling has been change to more simulate a stick shift.

1st gear shifts at about 1.5K (Ford does not allow mess'in with 1st gear)
The rest of the gears shift at about 3K.
The torque converter locks in 2nd gear at 40mph and stays locked. This is something you feel happening.
5th gear to me is a pure joy, in 5th doing 60mph and the RPM's are above 2K, when you start pushing the gas pedal down you can feel your back sinking into the drivers seat. Pure torque.

If you were to remove the battery cable from the car, this will reset the KAM, leave it off for 5+ minutes and then hook it back up, then reload the tune you will be working from a clean slate.

The PCM may be a little confused due to Doug disabling the Automatic Transmission Strategy. So doing the battery thing is a good idea.

Have fun and stay tuned.

i go the new tune from doug, but have not loaded it yet, stiff trying to decide if it is wirth it or not. when the torque converter locks in at 40mph, what does that really mean

I'll explain.

Long ago it was brought to Dougs attention that during DynoJet pulls that the automatic transmission torque converter was unlocking at about 5200rpm and then would relock, but then the hp would flatten out. This was a real issue reported by many.

Doug immediately began datalogging his mustangs automatic transmission, as Doug has stated he datalogged for about 5 hours and 100 miles and determined that the torque converter was not locking in most gears.

Doug modified the Automatic transmission tune to prevent this from happening.

Flash forward to present day: Keep in mind that the Mustang is marketed, manufactured and sold as a no nonsense muscle car. The last thing you want in a muscle car is a loose converter.

Having the converter lock is preventing loss of power and the wasting of gas while increasing performance.

As stated above, load the tune, run it for a few weeks. If its not for you then reload your old tune. It will still be nice to know you have some extra bullits to load if you need them.

This aint your grandmas kind of car.............well wait a minute I have seen some pretty old women driving these things...........I try to stay out of their way.

Hey GT John,
Is the best email address for Doug (bamachips@gmail.com)? I have sent him a couple of emails the last couple weeks. I want to mail him my tuner to get his latest tune but I have had no response back yet. Or is there another email address to reach him at that is better?
Thanks Scott

I have read that it is best to send him an email for the best results. I will send the tuner because I do not have the software, hardware, nor the computer smarts to take it by email. I know what best for me and that is to send him the tuner and remove the tune I don't want and put his tune in it place. If there is a better way to get it touch with Doug than thru his website email address...I guess that is what I am asking for.
Thanks Scott

Yup, thats the email address. He will answer just takes a while.

I sent him an email the other day because I'm getting a supercharger but the shop thats going to do the install is a Diablo Tuner. I have the Predator already I just need to know if the Predator has the same programming flexibility as the SCT. If it doesnt I wont be getting charged.

Well, I was going to go with Brenspeed and get the Saleen Stage 2 (485hp). When I asked if I could keep my WMS intake they said that they only tune using the Steeda CAI. So, I wont be getting a Brenspeed Saleen Stage 2.

Plan "B" is go go with the Whipple which can be easily adapted to the WMS. I have modified the WMS Ram Air Hood to where it now functions as a true Ram Air system.

I'm ready to write the check right now but wont until I get this tuning thing straightened out between the shop thats doing the work and Doug.

Didnt mean to highjack my own thread.

Well, I finally heard back from Doug last night about 9pm. He is suggesting just emailing the tune to me instead of sending him my tuner. I have a SCT 2 tuner. Is it hard to download a tune into it? I am afraid of screwing something up. I'm not the best on a computer. Need to decide if I want to try it or not.

Scott I have received and loaded emailed tunes several times. You only need to go to SCT's website and download their software (free). Then, get the tune emailed to you and save the tune on your hard drive. Once you've done these things, plug your tuner into a USP port on your computer and begin running the SCT software. It will let you download your new tune over (replace) whichever previous tune you choose.

Takes < 10 minutes. Oh yeah, don't be a wuss, just try it.

Alright, alright. I will give it a try. I will have Doug email his newest tune and try to download it. I have one more question. Is the tune presently on the tuner I want to replace lost forever or can I save it on my computer some how?

I am not sure about that one...... I never attempted to save from the tuner to the computer, only the other way around. Maybe ask SCT- when you go there to download the software, you'll notice they have a forum you can join and ask questions, comment, etc.

Hi John,
Well as you can see Doug sent me an email last night and I am going to try to have the tune emailed to me and download it myself. Thanks to Tom281's moral support. My question is where does your present tune from Doug allow the OD to kick in? And if I understand correctly I can have Doug set it about anywhere up to 60 mph. Way back early in this thread I posted some vids of Lidio's tune I am running. I now believe that last shift at 67 mph is just the torque converter locking up. Which makes it seem like is has 6 gears. I don't want to OD to kick in at 40 mph and lug around. I live in the country and most of my driving is at 55 mph or higher. I would be interested in your opinion on where to have Doug set the OD at.
Thanks Scott

I don't have an auto, but I think the converter locks up in every gear with Doug's new tune. That is the idea I got from reading this post. It will not "lug around" at 50mph, it will just be more solid feeling in every gear.

My two cents here... use whatever system your tuner prefers. The guy who tunes my car and many other cars (Adam at S.T. Motorsports), uses both, but generally prefers Diablo. He tuned my car using SCT, because that's what I have. But, I'd switch in a heartbeat if Adam wanted me to. People who claim that SCT is universally better than Diablo (or vice versa) are generally just misinformed... they are just tools. And like many things, "it's not the tool, it's the mechanic". Or in this case... the guy with the laptop.

Exactly, I can basically do the same tune with the Diablo as I can with the SCT, on a manual. With the auto there is a little difference but it wont be too long before that is all cleared up. I tune the most with SCT and it is the software that is most comfortiable for me but on a n/a car I can do the same with either software.

I really like doing Diablo custom tunes because the difference between their basefiles and my custom tunes is huge, the customers are really loving it.

Later Doug
