Muffler tip placement question...

I just got done switching out my mufflers and read that in order to center the tips, you need to adjust it from the mid pipe connection (which I need to do for my driver's side and will do once I get a friend to help me), but the question I had was that my driver's side tip is also lower than my passenger side (which sits perfect), will the mid pipe adjustment fix that too, or do I need to adjust something else for that?

Rotating at the midpipe may help a little bringing it up but you should try adjusting a little where the muffler meets the pipe that leads to the mid pipe. If adjusting both places does not help, you can bend the hangers a little bit to bring the tip up.

If rotating the midpipe doesn’t help you can loosen the muffler clamp and adjust the depth the midpipe goes into in the muffler pipe, if that make sense. That will raise or lower the tip. You should be able to get the tips where you want them with patience.

Thanks guys!

That won't cause any leaks if I don't have the little notched section completely lined up? Cause I tried that first and I didn't like that idea cause I didn't know if that would be safe since the little 'button' wasn't completely in the notch...

No, they won't leak. My GTA's are not on the "buttons" and I have no issues.

Let us know what happens. As NJ3 said, it takes patience. Don't get discouraged and keep trying.

I actually got the tip centered perfect by adjusting the midpipe and thought I had it raised as well, but the dang thing dropped again (not sure how that happened, I need to check the bolts again!)... I was going to try it again yesterday, but ended up with a migraine... I was going to try and attempt it again today after work... It's only sitting maybe a 1/4" (if that) lower than the passenger side, but it's bugging the hell outta me! LOL!

Centering the tips is really a 2 person job. Loosen the axle-back clamp..then loosen the midpipe clamp. Have your helper center the tips in the cutouts and hold them in place.. then tighten the midpipe clamp... then the axle-back clamp. If you have access to a lift, makes the adventure a 2 min job.

I agree! I did it myself using a couple jack stands since none of my buddies were around that day, but man, it would have been helpful! For the centering, I ended up loosening the mid pipe, adjusted the muffler where I wanted it, braced it in the position with a jack stand and re-tightened the mid pipe... Not recommended, but it worked...

Adjusting the mid-pipe clamps, as well as the mufflers clamps, will usually fix your problem. In extreme situations you can even bend the muffler hangers. I swapped mine out three times and have used all three techniques with success.

Steel is correct. This will fix even the worst muffler alignment issue. Lord knows I adjusted them enough with all my muffler changes.

I did all of the above and never could get mine centered on the passenger side with help from professionals. basically I had a 'to short' mid pipe on the passenger side. In fact when I put aftermarket mufflers on, there was evidence of a leak on the stock mufflers where they connect. Apparently, at the factory, instead of putting a different mid pipe that fit properly, they just put the muffler on insecurely, an extra clamp and that is how they centered the muffler. To fix it I would have to cut into the midpipe and add an extension.

I had the local muffler shop look at it, they said there is literally no room there. The guy just adjusted as close as possible, I guess it's true nothing is perfect I still love the sound

Here is the picture so far... I am still not 100% satisfied, but it's pretty close... The driver's side is still just a smidge higher than the passenger side...

I think they look even but if anything you've got it backward, the passenger side might by slightly higher.

You're right, I meant the driver side is a smidge LOWER... Oops...

I think I may just leave it that way for a while and see if it continues to bug me... Hopefully I can deal with it until I can get the FRPP Mufflers!
