MPG - Supercharger

Question to the supercharger owners. Since the supercharger is belt driven what's the MPG loss due to extra engine drag when not in the boost? I'm looking for feedback from both the centri and roots/screw owners.

Thx

I was getting 14 mpg n/a and now 13 mpg FI. Well worth it IMO. I didn't put a supercharger on a Mustang and worry about gas mileage...kind of an oxymoron.

Agreed, I was at a mustang meet and guy with a Kenne Bell was complaining he was getting 8 mpg on the highway without putting his foot in it. It wasn't quite adding up so I'd thought I'd inquire in case I was missing something.

I'm averaging 15mpg, whipple at 10psi, larger injectors and 4.10 gears. Driven every day.

Probably an even split between freeway and in-town driving. However, my freeway driving isn't always constant speed, due to rush-hour traffic it's more stop and go than ideal freeway driving.

I don't care about my mileage (unless it was crazy like 3mpg), but I do drive fairly conservatively in-town, just cause there isn't any point to driving aggressively in LA traffic. I drive more spirited in the weekends in them mountains.

wow, on the trip back from tillman speed after getting it dyno tuned, i got 22-24mpg according to the onboard computer. this was doing about 75-80 mph with the stock 3.31 gears and not really killing the throttle. i guess the stock gears do a good job with keeping the rpm's down. i am at about 2000rpm's at 75 mph

I average 18 mpg in my car. I drive mostly city driving. If the car is tuned properly, it should gas mileage similar to stock. The caveat being how you drive the car.

I should mention that for S&Gs, I drove around 17 miles with cruise set at 60mph and I got 23mpg. That was the most boring drive of my life. I'll stick to my 13mpg, thanks.

Im sure Adam (SONICBOOST) will chime in shortly but he has mentioned numerous times that after the addition of his Novi2200 his MPG has stayed constant if not better than before. With a Centri I think its a lot easier to stay out of full boost as opposed to a TS, So gas mileage could be easier to maintain. Although MANY other factors like gear selection, and driving tendencies go a long way as well.

I lost about 2 mpg initially, but I put in a lighter flywheel and driveshaft, and got those 2 back.
Right now on the highway, I can get 25mpg at 55 mph, 23 at 65, and 21 at 75. But that's flat, just cruising.
Normally, I get 19-21 commuting to work averaging 37mph in heavy highway traffic.

yup, on the open freeway they don't do to bad :-) I got 23-25 on my way back from Phoenix last time, with 4.10 gears doing 70-80

No Bs'ing here. I have done at least 3 80+ mile trips since the install of my Vortech kit and if I set the cruise about 70-75 I will get 28 on the hwy all day long!

Oh yes Matt, I love to tell people what kind of MPG is get with 430 rwhp With that said...

Loss?? HA, I gained mpg since the supercharger. Just checked today It read 20.1 mpg city/minimal highway driving, ran the a/c the last two days if that matters...I average 19-20 city and 25-30+ mpg highway... I almost don't ever want to sell my car or add any serious mods because of the HP/MPG ratio... I never really cared about my mpg until I added the supercharger...

Vortech centrifugal on my automatic GT. In town mileage stayed about the same as before (about 13 mpg), but highway dropped a couple MPG at 60 mph on cruise control (26-7 mpg before, 23-4 mpg now). The biggest hit to my fuel economy was adding the big stall converter which dropped my city mileage by a few mpg.

Same here on the hwy 28mpg. I thought my car's computer was figuring wrong, so I calculated the old fashioned way and found out it was right.

Now, around town is a completely different story. I get about 16-17 mpg, but no different than stock.

I think it seems like a SC won't affect your MPG from what people here are saying. Going full throttle will bring the MPG down further than if you didnt have a SC, however you can still acheive normal mpg with conservative driving.
