Modified H Pipe
Modified H Pipe
I work for a Ford dealer in parts, but have yet to see a Bullitt in person. I want someone who has been under a new one to explain to me exactly what is different about the h-pipe. My parts catalog has the same picture for all v-8 Mustangs, regardless of edition. I may consider using this h-pipe on my 2006 G.T. if it actually warrants enough difference to matter. May possibly use the Bullitt spec mufflers, once a few of them have been changed out here for Flowmasters and others. I would appreciate any input I can get from anyone who has actually seen this pipe versus what the vague press releases have said.
bump!! someone that has one post up pictures please. maybe a part# so us regular GT owners might be able to check on a price and order or something. I'd love to see what this new and improved h pipe looks like.

MS thanks for the photo of the muffler, they look close to the GTA's.

I'd imagine there'll be more of the exhaust components available when production is in full swing on the Bullitts.
I climbed under both an 08' Black Bullitt and 08' GT to see the difference today (dealer was closed so no one would ask what I was doing). From my vantage point, they both look identical, unless there is some nominal bend angle that the naked eye cannot see.
Here is the explanation directly from the engineer.
The system is retuned (within the existing package) from front to back. Aside from the tips, there is no way to tell what has changed beyond looking at part numbers. The h-pipe is modified internally as are the mufflers (completely different design on the inside). The exhaust tips were designed to work with the rest of the exhaust changes and were critical to delivering this sound (though the basic sound comes from the h-pipe and muffler redesign). Emcon is our exhaust supplier (recently spun off from ArvinMeritor). I provided them the target sound I was looking for and we worked together to come up with the engineering changes to deliver the sound. Lots of computer modeling coupled with in vehicle fine tuning. I will take exclusive credit for the tips, though! To go along with the signature sound, I made it as loud as legally possible, too. I spent a great deal of time on this exhaust system. Sounds like most of you like it. If you compare the layout of the S197 exhaust system to that of either the SN95 or even the '68, you'll see that it is substantially different. Getting the S197 Bullitt to sound the way it does forced us to sharpen our pencils and put on our thinking caps. It was sort of like trying to make a clarinet sound like a tuba (maybe not the best analogy). Hope this info helps.
FYI - Bullitt muffler code (stamped on can) is F1-8087
GT with automatic trans is F1-7991
GT with manual trans is F1-7849<!-- / message -->

My guess is it is all in the muffler redesign!
Scott
I have just the mufflers on my stock GT and it's a little deeper sounding.
A guy at work just got a Bullitt yesterday and I saw it this morning. It does sound good, VERY GOOD in my opinion. Whatever is different I want to know because I think I just found where my tax refund is going!!!
So to get that Bullitt sound I would have to change:
1) Exhaust manifold
2) Cat assembly/H pipe
3) over axle pipes
4) mufflers
??
Or would it just be H pipe and mufflers? I would think anything changed in the manifold or over axle pipes would change the sound very little, and most of the sound would come from the H and the mufflers.
