Well, I know many of us have the MMR intake and most of us are wanting to know a date when MMR will release the heat shield and intake pipe....I've kept in close contact with them and I got an email update from Mark at Modular Mustang Racing this morning and here's what he said:

Hi John, the kit will be available in about 3-5 weeks, the tube is made out of a thermoplastic (this way it will not heat soak like the aluminum tubes) and may be available in different factory colors. I will keep you posted. Thanks again for your business.

Mark
MMR

**Great news that they are taking their time and doing it right...Also cool that they may allow color combos for us! Hope this gets everyone excited!

Did you say they are going to do a heat shield? The guy I spoke with wasn't sure.

Sounds like it to me...I inquired about both in my questions to him and I would think he would have given me a no on the shield if it were not going to be offered....I think he just went into more specifics on the pipe as it's gonna be deifferent/better then we might have expected....

Right, sounds great. We also get a good discount for already having the Intake. John, one other question. Do we need to do a new tune for the added parts? I would think so.

I doubt it to be honest....The tune was required because of the new MAF....I can't see the new pipe and shield making any differences that the computer would need to know about...could be wrong but I'll probably be doing it either way as I've already purchased the SCT xcalibrator.....

I sent Mark a link of this new post and he came on TMS and left his first post in the older MMR intake topic just a few minutes ago to elaborate further ....here's a bit of it:

The new Sheild and Inlet tube will be ready in a few weeks, we tested both aluminum and plastic and have settled on the smooth plastic design because it does not heat sink like the aluminum tube which eventually adds to the inlet air temp reducing HP and the plastic was less than 1/3 the weight of the aluminum tube. Those that already own the standard Annihilitor kit will be able to upgrade to this for a reasonable and discounted price.

Please feel free to call us if you have any tech questions, we are here to help and stand behind all of our products.

Nice to see an owner take a hands on approach and update his customers by posting here on TMS....those who haven't picked up an intake for the "05 yet should take note of this and put these guys at the top of your list. They take care of their customers......good job Mark and thanks for the great products!

awesome news...can't wait till they are available and hopefully this also resolves the issue with the inlet tube resting on the radiator hose.

Hey guys -

I saw a piece written by MMR saying no custom tuning is needed to add the MMR intake kit - is that true?

I think at this point it's safe to say any after market air intake needs a tune.

Mark was saying it's not "necessary" or "required", but to see the full benefit of their intake, a tune certainly is a good idea....that was my understanding anyway.....Seems like the $369 for the SCT unit is money well spent as it will get plenty of use with this new car.....I'm sure most performance oriented owners will have them soon, and word of needing to have your car tuned after every mod won't be such a big deal as we'll all have the ability to do it if needed.....

I just got an email from MMR on the subject of tune. Here is their response.

No our kit does not require a reflash, we have had customer do custom tunes with our kit and pick up additional power though. Our kit will still run on low octane fuel and does not require high octane to make the horespower that our kits make on the dyno. Let us know how we can help. look forward to hearing from you.

After reading the report from C&L, it just makes ya wonder even more. I hate to wait, but I want to know the facts before I jump in to this one. What do you guys think?
