Talking

Has anybody tried using another CAI's tune, with a different tune? Let me elaborate. Has anyone taken a tune for a Steeda/C&L tune from Diablosport, and used it with their JLT CAI? OR any other variation. C&L intake with JLT tune? I don't see how they would differ that much. It would be interesting to try on a dyno sometime. I am going to make a custom CAI, and will model it off of the JLT, so I will probably just get the JLT tune, instead of custom tuning, which costs too much. If anyone has any information along these lines, let me know. Later.

how much is a custom tune for all aftermarket upgrades

just wondering?

and for the CAI question

I don't know if it would work or not, but my guess is that it probably wouldn't matter, except for the fact that each tune is tuned to max out each CAI

The only real difference between all of the CAI's is the MAF size, and filter size. I called a few places here in town (Phoenix) who quote me a few hundred, due to the fact that dyno time is $150/hr, and they said in order to do the tuning and dyno time, it would be a few hours. Is that wrong? How much is everyone else paying?

Andy have you tried Duffee Motorsports ?

He seemed fairly reasonable, and I liked his approach of "tuning" on the street where the car is going to live. His tuning runs $75 an hour, and a couple of pulls for a horsepower reading will run another $75 (his dyno time is also $150 an hour).

He said it usually takes a couple three hours for a tuning session.

If you end up using him let me know how it went, I WAS going to give him a try until the tax man had different idea's.

Either of you guys try ADS? I think they are 140 an hour, maybe they said 150, but they have a brand new 40k dyno over there. They also deal with sct products.

EDIT: I am going to check with them to see if i can work out a deal (i send them some extra work that spills over from my shop) Maybe if we all went there we could get a good rate?

If you do a custom intake then get a custom tune spefic to your car and intake.
We, (JLT, C&L, Steeda) spent many days perfecting our tunes so they could be sent all over the world and be safe. All cars are different and all mail order tunes have safety built in (meaning on the rich side and conservitive on timing). JLT has done the best we can to make sure the A/F's will be safe and give max power.

But the tunes are all brand spefic. None of the intakes look the same or flow the same and with the new MAF set up the smallest difference can cause major problems if you mix kits with tunes.
Best of luck.

Thanks Jay. What is your experience with the small changes in air flow affecting A/F? Have you actually looked at how different the JLT tune is from the Steeda or C&L tune? Maybe they are actually not all that different. Maybe if you were to use one tune on a different CAI, it would make more power? Just an interesting thought...
