So I recall reading how several people have solved this problem. Would someone mind posting up some pics of what they did? I noticed a slight tear in my boot today and after having the shifter for only 1 week, I'd really like to nip this in the bud.

I don't know what anyone else did, but I had to compromise slightly on how I wanted the angle and height adjustment. I think if you have the lever block too high or at too much of an angle you'll have tearing- I noticed on mine that it was very tight so I took less of an angle out of it and the boot loosened up alot. I've had mine since probably June or so with alot of aggressive shifting and have had no problems.

Danny... this is one of the first problems realized after the release of the MGW shifter... as Tom stated it is a combination of factors that cause the tearing of the boot, (1) the angle and height of the block (2) the end of the screws and the lock nuts also make contact with the boot.

The best way to solve the problem is to remove the block and turn it upside down so that the cap head of the screws is on the drivers side of the block... this makes it a little more difficult to tighten the screws but it keeps the sharp edges of the nuts and end of the threads from contacting the boot during shifthing.

I installed the block upside down from the start and have had mine installed for five months without any ware on the boot at all.

When did you get your MGW shifter...??

I'm sure George has done several changes to help correct the problem.. if you contact him, he will take care of you for sure.

I have a small cut in my boot. The first remedy was to turn the metal piece that attaches the shifter shaft to the shifter upside down. The first shifters had kind of sharp edge screws (which I thought I had read had been replaced). I think I will take my boot off and try a piece of inner tube patch material on the inside, over the cut.
