so RACING GT...you said that these resanators dont changed the sound(its still loud) but take about that annoying trumpeting and replaces it with a nice deep rumble?

 

That's right the trumpets will be gone and the tone will be deeper rumble. I guess depending on what type of mufflers your are using it can influence the sound level. With my FRPP/Borla's the the sound that I have is like the deep cobra sound! Dont forget that getting rid of the high pitch sounds might seem to you that you have lost sound. But let's face it you want to get rid of the high pitch sounds. This is what this whole discussion is about.

 

I dunno, everyone that listens to mine, loves the sound from my JBA longtubes, catted H-Pipe and Borla Stingers. Yeah, I get that rasp, and the trumpets, they just don't bother to the extent that I'm going to spend another cent on exhaust.

 

well.... i think i may try it just for the hell of it. Since I had bought the borla catback set, I have 2 sets of axle pipes, so I will use the stock pipes to put the glasspacks on and just change them out. If i like it, i'll put them on the borla pipes so that i get my moneys worth out of that set

although it may be 3 months or so before i try it... i will be away from the car for a long time


edit: i may even buy some cheapo straight pipes from the auto store just to see what it would sound like without the borlas

 

i was just thinking... if you reduce something by 3db, you basically half the value...i don't know if this applies to sound but it sure does to electricity.

does it sound pretty much the same volume outside? i like it loud

the location makes sense....I was going to put them on my X, but if I want to switch to longtubes later, I wont have to switch em or buy a replacement set...

I was thinking of putting then directly after the long tubes when I get them. It haven't done much research, but you should be able to cut and clamp them in.

 

The concern I would have with that location is that it could move the X/H pipe back towards the rear of the car. And since the brackets for the X/H pipe hang off the tranny crossmember, you may have to fabicate a whole new mounting system, or at least modify the existing one. Depending on how far back it moved, that might be more trouble than it's worth.

 

Good point! I went with the easy way.

 

IRRC, with the Hooker LT's you can cut the the mid pipe and make a slip fit connection to the collector. My idea, and I am not sure it's feasible, was to install the one end of the resonator on the collector and then measure how much to take off of my OR X. From your pic, it does look like the room is there and the hanger is after the bend.
