Manual Transmission Fluid

I have an 07 GT 5 speed and was wondering if the factory installed manual transmission fluid is synthetic. I have installed Red Line Manual Transmission Lube in another vehicle I have and it definitely made a difference in smoothness especially in the winter with really cold temperatures. Has anyone here installed synthetic fluid and has it made a dirrerence?

I used Red Line, cant honestly say I noticed a big diffrence, if it was synthetic to begin that might explain it, but I was under the impression it was conventional ah well

I wouldn't run RP in my lawn mower.

It really is not a very good oil. It continuously fails in independent tests.

They have a very good marketing campaign but that's about it.

By the way isn't the fluid in the manual trans regular ATF or have they finally switched back to a manual type fluid?

I use mobil 1 now but was considering RP.

So far as I know they still use ATF in the manuals

I contacted Tremtec awhile back and they said it normally does use ATF in it but you can put syncromax in for it to be quieter and a bit smoother but it will be harder to shift in the winter cold until it warms up.

I have been runing Syncromax for over a year now. I changed over at 15K miles and the stock fluid still looked fine. I feel that the tranny is a bit quieter now, but I never had shifting problems before or after the switch.

Austin doesn't know what winter cold really is.

Fluid recommended and used by Ford is Mercon. In discussion I had with a TREMEC engineer his recommendation was to stick with Mercon. For manual transmissions you do not want a slick oil, as those properties will interfere with the operation / effectiveness of the blocker rings. TREMEC also pointed out that some of the non Mercon oils also have additives that are detremential to the composite material on the blocker ring.

Stock fluid the car comes with is Mercon, non synthetic. I'm pretty sure though it does not need to be changed over the life of the car. I don't think it is mentioned in the scheduled maintenance.
