Magnaflow System Question

The local exhaust shop has a Magnaflow system that he is trying to get rid of.
Seems an older couple came in with a '06 GT automatic and wanted the exhaust changed. Owner asked "how loud do you want it?"
Reply - "Well we're not kids but we want it "nice".
Orders the Magnaflow cat back pipes and mufflers, polished stainless.

Installs the system, couple comes to pick up car and the wife says
"its not loud enough, that sounds like stock."
Owner says - you agreed on it, its installed.
Week later and multiple conversations, the owner swaps out the system.
Removes Magnaflow completely, installs factory pipes at rear of the cats
and hangs 2 Flowmasters.

Customers are happy, shop owner now has a used system. Thats where I come in, while delivering REDLINE oil to his shop he offers the system
pipes & mufflers for $300 installed.

Is this a good deal? Are they really that quiet? I am not a Flowmaster fan.
Have rode in a 06 equipped with them and did not like the drone at cruise
speed.

Any opinions?
The system was installed for 2 weeks max.

Thanks,

TDS

I hate magnaflows because they are too smooth for me. The whole point of a V8 was for the burble and rumble.

other than that, they are excellently made.

I have a 2000 GT with Magnaflows, and I find the straight-pipe sound of the LM way too obnoxious. If you think the Flowmasters are too loud (I'm not sure from your post if you feel that way), then you definitely wont like the LM or Stinger systems, as they're much louder, especially at WOT.

I like my Magnaflows because they're more aggressive than stock at idle, without being too loud. When I get on it, though, they definitely make some noise. The sound between the 05+ and SN95 Mustangs is very similar.
The price is very good, so if you're intrigued, it's a good deal.

I had SLP Powerflos, SLP Loudmouths, Magnaflows and now Bassani. The Magnaflows weren't much louder than stock IMO.

Thanks Guys for your input. I am not looking for "noise", but an aggressive sound. flowmasters are ok, I personally don't like the "drone" at certain RPMs they can produce.
Had Flows American thunder on an '93 5.0 LX. Could not hear myself think at interstate speeds. Our '94 GT Vert has x-pipe and 2 Magnaflows custom installed. It was not a kit.
However I know that due to the difference in systems, the '06 will sound different. Probally due to muffler location, pipe size, etc.

I am currently hunting a local car with the same Magnaflow system installed to hear and take a ride in, for my own curiosity before buying this system in question.

Thanks again,

TDS

I have Magnaflows and a Bassani catted X Pipe. I originally just went with the axle back and I remember it was very slightly louder than stock and deeper as well. It is a decent amount louder at WOT. Now, the X Pipe really woke up the noise out the back, it really burbles and pops and I'm satisfied with the sound.

There are a variety of sound slips on the exhaust thread you could listen to. Of course you shouldnt base your complete opinion on the clips, because the digital sound cant replace the actual sound, but it'll give you an idea.

I just sold my Magnapaks with mid pipes for $300.00 CAD (approx $280.00 US).

It all depends on what sound you are looking for. The magnaflow mufflers are not much louder than stock, a bit lower sounding but look a lot nicer than stock. I then swapped to the Magnapaks. Definately louder, a lot louder than stock. I have now switched to FRPP mufflers. Had to go back to the stock midpipes . These mufflers are a bit louder than stock at idle but only because they have a lower tone to them. At WOT they are very loud. However, when cruising slowly in 2nd gear around 1,500 rpm, the magnapaks were louder than the FRPP's.

So my 2 cents....no matter what you get you may or may not be happy with it. It is very hard to find the best of both worlds with the mufflers that are out there.

Oh, I had a MAC system on my 90 5.0 and you couldn't talk to the passenger when driving down the highway cause the drone was insane. The new design hardly has any drone.

Magnaflows are very very quiet, more quiet than stock!

Flowmasters sound great, there is very little drone, its not ear hurting like Borla's are, I still love the sound, cant go wrong with the Flowmasters.

The magnaflows are about the same as stock muffers at idle but get throaty as you accelerate. Once you get past 2800-3000 they open up and get louder. Drone isn't too bad once you get going. I have a Steeda CAI which helps a bit. A great deal at that price.

Have purchased the Magnaflow system mentioned above. Waiting to get it installed, hopefully, in the next week.
I could do it myself, however, he offered.

I did locate a local 2005 GT equipped with the same set up. I really liked the sound at idle, cruise and WOT.
The sound bites on line do not do justice to the real thing.

Its "loud" enough for me and the wife, then again, we are old people.

Thanks to all who replied.

The Magnaflow system is great, it is not the "magpacks" but the regular system. Looks good, sounds great, and no drone, rattles or noise other than the exhaust output.
Reminds me of an older cobrajet car we owned with the factory exhaust.
SWEEEEEET!
