Looking for Top-End
Looking for Top-End
I'm looking for info/suggestions on how to increase my top end to take advantage of the autobhan speeds. I'd like to run 160-190 MPH. What I want is to have Porche drivers to say "**** that Mustang is fast"!
Thanks
Thanks

I don't think those speeds are possible in this car even with the supercharger. These cars are very drag limited at 135-140 mph.
I use to owned a CBR(racing bike), years ago, and hit 165 a few times on local roads. 165 is scary fast. When I slowed down to 65 I felt like I could put down the kick stand and step off the bike. How fast have you had that Stang up to BTW? I've read where some have pushed the 140 marker
. BTW, I do not condone speeding
.
but dude he wants to run the autobahn, i would say lower the car, get a supercharger or turbo, some comp cams, new heads, pistons, and drive shaft, and of course before you do any of that get a tuner like SCT, i think with that you should hit around 170-185
Lower your car ALOT, put a front facia w/an air splitter on, add a supercharger or turbo. Leave your gears stock, put on some light weight wheels and don't go crazy wide with your tires.
By the way, don't change out your driveshaft! The 1pc aluminum are great until 100-130 but they will start to flex and you will get serious vibrations after those speeds.

I guess if the autobahn is his quest, then go for it... but IMO, he'll never see 190. This car is as aerodynamic as a rock. Sure, you can throw a rock pretty fast, but not 190 mph...lol.
may i toss this in....
please....

I agree with some ohters.. no way it will do 190.. the drag is too much. Around 140 your going to hit that drag brick wall.
like the one guys said... I've been to 155 on a bike before and there's not much room for mistakes...
roll along at 100 and pass the porche's when they are wrapped around a pole.

yep!
I guess 190 was a little much to ask for, but if I could get 150-160 out of her and be able to maintain it without anything breaking would be cool. The fastest I've ever driven a car was about 165 MPH it was a Mercedes souped up by AMG, and yes it requires total concentration. This stang I've had to 140 and perhaps a little more but hard to tell because the guage only goes to 140.
Thanks for the suggestions guys, my next project will be to lower the car.

Do you live in Germany Big Poppa?
I do, and I will tell you that the top end on this car really isn't that bad.....even with 4.10s like I have. With 4.10s in 5th going about 100mph or 110mph you are actually in a pretty good position on your power band that passing and continued accel isn't so bad.
I will assume you do live in Germany, but at least where I live people rarely break 100-110 mph on the autobahn. A fair number of performance vehicles are even electronically limited at about 155 mph or 250 kph. Including bahn bombers like the M5, but again I only rarely see anyone going that fast.
Like others have said, if you want the top end a supercharger is the only way you are going to get at or above 160mph.
I've had this car where the speedo is buired with just my bolt ons too, but sustaining that speed for any length of time isn't the smartest thing to do IMHO.

Wasnt there an add by vortech early on maybe mid 2005, that said a vortech powered, mustang with tuning did, like 185 or so? I will look, but believe the car was windveil blue and had some mods, suspension, rims, etc with a new vortech SC kit.

Steeda claims their front fascia to be more aerodynamic than the rest of the aftermarket offerings. Is it better than the Ford part with an add on splitter? Needless to say you already have the stars and stripes pony for the grill.

I would have to agree with all the above posts about the capabilities of the Mustang getting above 165. I was stationed in Germany back when most of you were babies and I wouldn't have wanted to drive on that bumpy piece of
faster than about 120.
faster than about 120.

then You won't have to mod anything
