Looking to hook up
Trying to get my tires to hook up better that is.
I have 17x9 chrome gt500 American Muscle replicas (No longer sold in this size) with 255/50's and I'm considering getting a pair of the newer 18x9.5's with a set of 285/40 NT555R's. Considering the 555r's because they seem to be passable (with caution) in the wet, and last 10-15,000 miles.
Would this look okay? When seeing size differences I usually see the larger diameter wheel in the front - but there's nothing (DR and streetable) I can seem to find that would fit my 17x9 without a major drop.

This is one way of getting a wider tire out back. You could also throw a wider tire on your 9's (275/285) with no problems at all. The 555R's are definitely a good set up. The wet traction isn't great since its a drag radial, but you can get some miles out of them. Let me know if you have any questions!

This is the tire I'm running now. It's sticky with a 140 treadware. I got 452 rwhp and they work well.
