long tube header install afterthoughts and new problem

okay so over the past few days me and my bro have been working on mac header installation after many bumps in the road we have finished.

is there anything i should keep my eye on or listen out for to make sure i installed everything ok

also when my steering wheel is a little loose when ever im just driving it moves alittle. whats causing this are the bolts not tight enough? i will retightening them in the morning to see if that will help

Hi, maybe this helps = root/cause...

I've just installed shorty headers and the clearance between the headers and the steering rod is minimal!!!

So I test drove my car and heard some grinding noises when turning the wheel right whilst driving. It was the left header touching the steering rod!

Resolution: I lifted the motor with some grommets and it works fine now!

Here is a picture showing the minimal clearance:

Sound like this could be your resolution to your problem.

I hope it helps.

Regards,

Ralph

The nice thing about the Prothane mounts is that the motor stays PUT, and won't flop around like it does with the stock mounts. You could shift the motor over 1/8" towards the passenger side to clear the steering shaft, and it will stay there. The downside is that apparently there is an engine "shudder" at around 1500rpm (load independent) that gets transmitted to the chassis, where before it was absorbed in the hydro bushing in the stock mount. That said, the shudder is ONLY at one specific RPM, not all that bad, and at a point where you only really hit it infrequently. If you're doing headers, you are only two bolts per side away from finishing the swap, so it's a no-brainer to me.
