I remember reading a while back about these heads. The pair costs $1595 with the core heads returned. I was wondering if anyone has these and if they are worth it? I think 40rwhp was mentioned (or something close to that), but I don't know if those numbers are legit. I have about $2000 that I can spend and thought this might be a good way to go.

Another question, for anyone who has swapped their heads. When I had my 88 GT, I swapped the heads on it and it was pretty easy. How easy is it on these new motors and what else would I have to do to make sure everything is ok (ie, tune)? Thanks for the input!

Well, I'm also just starting this journey myself...I would be interested to hear if anyone has done a head swap yet and how it went. I bought a spare set of heads (thanks hippiehead025!) to send to Al (Boss 330 racing). I will be talking to Al soon on the work to be done on the heads and the Cams that will go with them. I believe that step one in the shop manual for removing the head begins with removing the motor. :bang: Shurley you can swap the heads without pulling the motor. Anyone done this yet??

You should be able to do a search on here and find some info. This was quite a big topic a while back. I say go for it though, they are reputable.

Call Boss 330 Racing. Awesome work and his pricing is on par with the industry. http://www.boss330racing.com/
Vegasjay is getting his heads done there as well.

David, I've been drooling over your project for a while now. Any guess on hp gains on just the heads? Also, if you know what else would have to be done with a head swap.

I just spoke with Al and let me tell you it was a real pleasure. He is a friendly, professional man that knows his stuff. I believe that when it comes to our motors, there is no better and I type this after spending countless hours researching a lot of motor builders. David is 100% right, his pricing is great and on par with the "big" builders, but IMO you get so much more and it's right the first time. I am very excited about this...

It would be nice to see some kind of numbers for this, I e-mailed Livernois about that but they never answered me. Funny how when i was asking price they answered me within one day. Oh well the way things work now a days.
I really would consider this mod but not until i see some kind of numbers that help justify the cost.

The ony real hard part of replacing the heads is taking the headers out. I looked in the service manual and it looked easy....if you had the service manual to guide you.

BTW in the comming weeks, all the service manual worksheets will be availible here on TMS. I just need the time to do it.

Can gains be had from just ported/polish on the heads or does it take both p&p heads and new cams to see the big gains???
Scott
P.S. On a N/A setup like I have. No power adders.

This is what I am trying to figure out. Does anyone have an answer? I read on another site that Livernois hasn't posted their gain because they actually lost power and only after a decent amount of tuning (due to VVT?) only came up with 10rwhp. Not sure though.

Help me. What does (due to WP ) mean?

Variable Valve Timing (I'm pretty sure that's the acronym).

I believe it is primarily for emissions and such. Not sure exactly how it would effect a head swap though.

Hey David (169Stang),
What is your input on the last 6 posts or so on this thread? You are living it with your engine build up and your p&p heads from Boss 330. Got any input?

Here is my take on the head's and cam's (in my humble opinion)...Variable cam timing seems to be a good thing to me. It uses oil pressure to add or pull timing to your motor. It optimizes performance (making small adjustment's when necessary) in your motor and could help you in a detonation scenario, saving your motor.
Ported and polished heads will gain you HP by itself. Beefing up the valvetrain will help you safely rev a little higher and also help you gain power through larger valves. Cam's will definitely help compound your power gain and you might as well change them since your in there...
I'm not going to get into HP #'s yet, but I can tell you this much I wouldn't be spending the money if I didn't feel like I was going to reach my goal...

Stay tuned...

Justin
