A Little Air + a Corvette Goes Bang
The recent additions of a new torque converter and LCA relocation brackets appears to have helped the car launch better. Even though the weather probably kept our ETs from being lower, it did hook and launch well enough to get a little air under the left front tire on a few passes. OK… so it’s not bumper-dragging wheelstands, but it was still pretty cool to see for the first time.
Here’s a short compilation of a few launches from July 20, 2007 at Barona.
Getting’ It Up
And Donna may not be the original “ChevyKiller”, but I think she’s earned an honorary admission to the club, and an associate title.

lol, was everything you lined up against a fully tubbed race car?? Except for the suburban, of course...
And what was the final time on the Vette? 3:42.96?? How the hell do you wreck that?

HAHA... he didn't even get a final ET. The timeslip is blank after the 330' incremental (and I think he slid through that timer beam... hehe).

[quote=don_w;967584]It's his own fault IMO. On a previous run, he was all over the place, but by pure luck kept it off the wall. He wasn't so lucky the second time. He was on street tires and apparently refused to get out of the throttle when it was fishtailing.
Fishtailing can be addictive sometimes.

Nice launch, Don.
And Donna is always welcome in the ChevyKiller club!!
At least she got to race!! Heck, the Z06's get out of line at Irwindale now when I get up front. But like you, I don't mind racing trailer cars 90% oif the time cause it's more fun to be racing somebody fast win or lose IMO.
It's actually kind of boring racing other street cars now as it's not really a race anyway. Thankfully I have guys like you, Donna, Paul, Dean, Ken, Greg, and some others around who keep me committed to going faster!
Keep playing with the Steeda brackets and you'll dial it in and once you're set and have some good air, I'd expect a 6.8 or 9 on your 12 psi.
That is going to be very nice when you hit it!

Thanks Mark. I think getting good air will be the key. We may need to plan another trip to Irwindale soon, so I don't have to wait until fall to get the better air.
One thing I noticed on Friday night, was that the car pulled the tire on the earlier runs (during daylight), but didn't do it as darkness arrived. The humidity was pretty high later in the evening. So either the moisture robbed some power, or possibly, the track just started going away a little.
