Lidio's 93 tune vs. 89 tune

Well I just found a place in Oklahoma City w/ 93 octane gas. I ran my current tank of 89 down to the last drop and changed my tune while I sat at the pump. I filled her up w/ the 93 and WOW, what a difference a tune makes. Definately accelerated quicker and seemed to shift harder. The only downfall is 89 is $2.91/gal. and the 93 is $3.50/gal. Although the 93 is fun, I'll stick with the 89 for normal every day driving.

If it makes you feel better, 87 octane is $3.15 - $3.20 here, so you've got a bargain with that 89!

Would it be ok to change from 89 to 93 without a tune?

If I understand things correctly you will get detonation if you do that. Someone else may be able to elaborate on this.

Exactly the opposite. Going to a higher octane fuel (while using the same tune) will reduce the chances of detonation. It's the same principal as adding a few gallons of race gas when headed to the track. Even though my car is tuned for 91 pump gas, if I add some 100octane fuel, I reduce the possibilty of detonation.

Thanks Don, sorry about the misinformation. I knew it was one or the other

100 race gas - $4.99
91 - $3.15
87 - $2.95

I like having the 100 available, and usually put 3 gallons of that in before filling the rest of the way up with 91. Of course, right now I don't have a tune on the car, still running stock. But thought I'd try the misture out anyway, make sure they still had the 100 octane and the price hadn't gone up.

Now, if only I could get the Predator to recognize my CAL-Id so I can start tuning.
