LCA install, which way is better.

Which way is better to have the jackstands on the frame rail forward of the LCA or under the axel housing? I have seen write ups both ways.

You want to put the jack stands under the rear axle and only do one side at a time.

I recently swapped mine out for GT500 LCA's and rotated the tires in about an hours time.

You will need a breaker bar, torque wrench and if I remember correctly a 18mm socket. If you have an impact gun and some impact swivels or swivel socket this will help speed up the removal.

I did this in my drive way and it is on an incline so I chocked up the front wheels, jacked up the rear and placed the jacks stands under the axel. Then remove the tires, disconnect the emergency brake cables, the remove the two bolts holding the LCA, the reinstall in the oposite order. The GT500 arms came with new hardware wich I used. If reusing the old bolts throw some loctite on them. Specs call for torquing to 129ftlbs. I went to 130 for good measure.

One side was a piece of cake, the drivers side the bolt would not come out, used a punch and hammer to "help" it out. Then I noticed when resintalling I could not get one of the holes to line up, WTF? I then thought about it for a minute and removed the chocks from the front tires and voila!! everything lined up. Jacking up the rear with the fronts chocked, because I was on an incline, must have put a load/ misaligned the rear.

Last step put her back down on the ground and go for a test drive.

you can use a drift pin to line them up when reassembling if need be.
Also what do the instructions say about the ebrake cables?

Just did them this weekend with relocation brackets.Place jackstands on the frame rail forward of the LCA .May need to raise lower diff to line things up a bit. I think my e-brake cables are routed overtop that is on solid LCA's.

Gleamin...did you weld the relocation brackets or just bolt them in? I heading out to the garage today to do the same install unless I need to weld them. The brackets are made by BMR and are advertised as bolt on but but give steps to weld them in place in the directions.

I got the J&M relocation brackets they were bolt in--But I had to drill both sides as there was no holes in diff for the relocation bracket upper holes.
The BMR relocation brackets are a little different and should bolt right in.

Well, I ended up spending the day throwing on a few coats of Zaino instead. I will probably end up putting the LCA's on Wednesday. I'll keep you posted as to the outcome.

out of the box just wondering if a hole needs to be drilled on the out side of these things.
Std its hard to tell in your pics if you have 3 bolts on the tire side of the bracket or just the two. I can see the upper most bolt on the inside did you have to drill one for the other side or not?

Yes mount the same but I did not have any holes in diff for the upper mounting holes for the relocation brackets. So had to drill the holes which was no big deal as there is lots of room to drill.

here are the ones I made. I made both side the same hight. I was thinking I would drill a hole on the out side or the tire side of the bracket. I see there is no need for that.

If this info was already covered, sorry. For some LCAs, the car should be at ride height or at least the rear suspension loaded before final torque is applied to the hardware. So ramps ounder the rear tires or stands under the axle would be best.

I'll try to post up pics of my BMR LCA relocators this evening.
