Largest Diameter

Hey guys, what is the largest diameter tire that will fit on the front and rear of a stock GT? 295/40/20 on the rear? I really want the max amount of sidewall on my 20in rims. I have 285/30/20s on the rear right now and its really starting to bug me.

Really guys nothing???

Ok well heres what I'm thinking either

295/40/20 + 265/35/20

or

295/40/20 + 255/45/20

Thoughts?

I don't know about your 20's, but you can get 305's in the rear easily and 275's in the front, no problem. That could change if you go too tall in overall height. Try to stay around 27'' tall.

my 20s are 8.5 up front and 10 in the back, I'm actually asking about height. Is a 295/40/20 + 265/35/20 or 295/40/20 + 255/45/20 combo going to be to tall?

That 295/40/20 is freakin' 29.29'' tall. The 265/35/20 is 27.30'' tall. The 255/45/20 is 29.03''tall. I say too tall, but I may be wrong. The vehicle comes with 27'' tall tires from the factory.

Are you lowered? If not, 295-40-20 and 255-40-20 fit. This person had a thread here too, but I can't find it. He said no rub.

If you're lowered, than all I can say for sure is you can go at least 28.6" in diameter. That's what I have on the back with 275-40, and it still looks like there's a little room.

27.25 inches if you want to maintain the same rolling diameter with a load index of 96 to 99 to cover the spectrum of options (96 V6, 97-98 GT, 99 GT500 for a GVW of 4340 to 4550 to 4820 repsecitvely)

You do realize the your effective gearing will change, the car will accelerate slower, and your speedo will read incorrectly, right?

2 inches taller than stock in the rear, 3/4" taller in front. Don't even think about lowering it. Why didn't you go with 35 in the front and 30 in the rear?

thats right, I already had 35s in the front and 30 in the rear. yes I realize I will loose acceleration and my speedo will be off. But I can get the speedo back on with a tune and Im willing to take the very small acceleration loss. If you talk to a lot of guys who have 20s they will say that they love them but hate the rubber band tires. I'm taking a chance to see how I like these, even though they are larger than stock. I've talked to a couple guys with the 40s and they love them. So we will see...

With the taller tires, now change out the rear gears for some 4.10's. That would probably be like adding 3.73 gears with the factory wheels. You get better acceleration and the tire setup you wanted.

You're talking about JUST height in the wheel/tire right? Not width correct?

Correct, tire width doesn't change your effective gearing.
