K&N + Predator = Ping
#1
I just installed my K&N CIA and a Pedator 87 Octane Tune on Friday. I am now getting Pinging at WOT. Has this happened to any one else? Is there something I can do to fix this, short of removing the modes? The car does pull harder and seems to improve performance all together. I would like to keep from using a higher octane fuel. Anyone?

Try a Tank of Better Gas to see if that is even an issue before changing anything. Run it almost empty and put in 5 gallons of Midgrade and see if it goes away. If that does not do it repeat with the Hi Grade. If that takes care of it you will probably need a Different Tune. But make sure its a Fuel issue first. Also you may have got a BAD Tank of the Lo Grade.

Yep, having the same problem with my SCT2 and K&N CAI. Pings no matter what I do at WOT. I have tried taking timing out. I have tried 87 tune with 91 octane. Still pings. SCT is working with me.

I installed Predator and K&N together, so I'm not sure which is the issue. I guess I will try the gas thing. Before I call Diablo Sport, is there any one else who may have solved the Ping thing?

If no luck, then see if reflashing the computer with the stock tune helps. The K&N CAI is supposed to add 15 rwhp with that tune.
If that works, then you may have to wait for a custom tune for the K&N CAI, which DiabloSport is supposedly working on, in order to get some additional horses.

Did Diablosport come out with the K&N CAI tune yet?
I just loaded the 91 Octane tune. Once my K&N CAI arrives, I'd like to know the best way to proceed.
"Plug & Play" ? or will I need to do something else once the K&N CAI is installed?

I always use 93 octane fuel (Europe) and installed the 91 octane tune. No issues, runs better.
Just wondering what might happen when I install the K&N CAI. Should I try the 87 and 91 and then keep what's better?

So . . . . if I currently have the "91 octane tune" installed (and running fine) . . . I should be able to just install the K&N CAI and go with no tuning changes?
Thanks for your help,

I have the K&N and predator. I get the same ping at WOT when I do any tune with the predator. It runs fine with stock tune. I put 89 octane in and still get a ping with 87 octane tune. Right now I am olny using the predator for rev limit, speed limiter and idle rpm.

I put in 13.5 gallons of 92 Octane, no Ping with 87 tune, so I thought I would put in the 91 Otane tune seeing as I had to pay 2.49 a gal. for the 92 octane. It pings worse now. I went back to the 87 octane tune. I will get in touch with Diablo Sport and see whats up with a K&N Tune. I am afraid this tune might be hurting the engine.

John, where do you live? The reason I ask is heat will also contribute to detonation as well. I get the pinging if I stay at a standstill for too long in 110+ heat. Once I'm moving again it goes away.
