This is the first thing I have ever done to a car, I'm a modding virgin (or was till last night). I was kinda freaked out to start her up, I kept think that I did something wrong and she'd blow up.

more power? I dunno, can't tell.
better throttle response? I dunno, can't tell.
sound better? I'm not quite sure, but I think the engine purrs louder at WOT.

One thing I noticed is that there is a metal on metal vibration noise right when I pass 3k RPM. It's not too loud, but I can still hear it and it makes my car sound cheap. I'm going to investigate further tonight, make sure I don't have any metal parts mashed up next to each other.

Btw, putting the lining around the heat shield is a female dog. I had to get a screw driver and "loosen" the lip all around the lining.

Next mod on the list...3.90 gears or the BBK throttle body... Fun fun.

Mine makes the same sound.... I can't figure it out. Nothing seems to be loose or anything.

Have had mine over 3,000 miles without the noise you are speaking of. There was a thread awhile back where the filter cone was not on far enough and it was touching the fender frame. I definitely noticed a little better throttle response - especially in second and third. With the tune from BamaChips, you really can tell a different in response .

I did some more investigating, and the sound doesn't appear when the car is being revved in neutral. It only happens when in gear and accelerating pretty hard. The sound happens two or three times in succession, right when I pass 3k on the tach. It is fairly loud in 1st gear, audible in 2nd gear, and I don't think it does it in 3rd. My gf thinks, because of the aforementioned info, that the noise is coming from the transmission.

...but I swear it only started happening after putting the intake in.
