I just installed the C&L with the 91 octaine preditor tune, This is a great mod, I'm am very pleased. You can feel a great power gain and the sound is awsome, thanks to all that helped me make the decision. I love it!! I did not install the mount bracket, will this be a problem in the future??

AircraftTech,

Glad you like it! I installed the bracket on mine just to give it that extra stability, but I don't think it'll hurt anything to leave it off. Since the instructions say it's optional, I would guess it would be perfectly fine not to use it. Have fun!

Just finished the install of my C & L intake and predator tune. I am very impressed with the extra power and the great sound the intake makes under WOT. Is it my imagination that this mod could make the exhaust sound better and different? I am still running the stock mufflers but I swear they are a little louder. Also, I am running the 93 octane tune and heard a little rattling a couple of times. If it continues I will drop back to the 91 tune and run 93 gas.

I recommend not driving around with the pinging.. you risk engine damage. You should tune down to 91 octane ASAP.
Its easy and you dont have to restore factory tune 1st.

I want to run the 93 octane tune but no gas stations around my area sell it only 92 octane

I dont have the stock mufflers on - but it did change the sound of my SLPs.

You could drop to the 91 octane tune or just back some of the timing off on the 93 octane tune. Don't drive it around if it's detinating, you will damage your motor.

Hi Guys,
Had a good mustang week. Got my C&L intake with predator tune and my intake cover. Did the mods to the intake cover just like 05SATINGT did and I think it looks awesome. Thanks for the idea 05SATINGT. You had a great idea. The car runs real strong and the new sound is great. The intake make a great new growl and I swear the stock exhaust sounds meaner. Here's a couple of pics of the new setup.

Here's another pic. BTW want to thank Midwest Auto for the great intake cover. The quality is great and install was a piece of cake. Also thanks to PONYGIRL for all of your hard work on the group buy.

And for the record. Not trying to get anything started AT ALL!!!!!!!!! But I took a 30 mile drive after everything was installed and got home and the 1st thing I did was open the hood and laid my hand on the ALUMINUM intake and it was cool. No heat at all. For what it is worth.

What exactly is this "pinging?" I've heard a slight rattling sound coming from what sounds like directly under the driver and passenger seats. It sounds like the exhaust pipes are rattling/vibrating against another piece of metal very rapidly. I heard this sound when I was bone stock. Since I have installed my flowmasters the sound has faded considerably, I only hear it once in a while now. Tell me this isn't the dreaded "pinging."

If you get on it at, when you hit around 4000-4500 rpms you hear a distinct rapid ticking sound. And you know its coming from under the hood - no mistaking it.

I also checked the intake to make sure it was secure (didnt use the bracket) and feel the temp after roaring around the freeway and it was cool to the touch and the engine compartment was hot..

So its more of tick as opposed to a rattle or vibration? The best I can describe the sound I hear is if you put a metallic vibrating massager, turned up on high, against an exhaust pipe.

That's what it sounds like, actually, and you should be able to make it go away the moment you hear it just by lifting on the gas.

I was getting it a little after installing my C&L and tune, but that was because I used the wrong tune. Once I got the right one in there, no more pinging, and much more fun! I haven't added the pony or lettering to my intake cover yet, still trying to decide if I want the pony, the tri-bar pony, or the GT from the fenders on there. I'll post pics of what I finally do.
