does it really give you hp and tq gains? it looks really good, and only 699!!! it only weighs 17 lbs, the bmr is at 22 i think. i would believe it's pretty solid considering the abuse there 10 sec mustang has gone through?

I was speaking to someone at JPC Racing (not Justin) yesterday concerning a clutch and flywheel.
The aluminum driveshaft was suggested to me.
He said that someone who installed it improved his 1/4 mi time by 0.2 sec. I find that hard to believe.
I was also told that $699 was their introductory price and that it would soon be going up to $749.
I asked if there were any changes required, pinion yoke ect.. and was told it's a direct replacement. "just bolts right up"

 

It would free up a little hp/tq since it's a lot lighter. The way this concept was explained to me was less weight, easier movement, thus more power. It won't give you more power at the crank but it'll free up some at the wheels which is what you want anyways. I'd also get it b/c it's shaving off 31lbs according to the description.

 

Wow! 31lbs is a lot of weight reduction. I'm just wondering if there are any vibration issues with the 1 piece driveshaft vs. the 2 piece design from the factory? If not, why would the factory use a more complex design.

 

Yes and its rotational weight and not just dead weight so I would imagine the benefits would be obvious and genuine. I am have been thinking about this myself - any idea when the price goes up??

 

I read somewhere else that losing 25lbs of rotational mass is the same as losing 100lbs of dead weight which is ~0.1 sec in the 1/4. Not sure how much the stock driveshaft weighs though...

 

just got an e-mail from jpc, they say it reduce 1/4 mile time by 2 tenths. they have no hard dyno numbers for improvement in hp though. they did say it is a direct bolt on and the prep time is longer than the installation time.

 

The stock driveshaft weighs roughly 50lbs.

I would assume that Ford Racing will have an Aluminum driveshaft out soon enough. I am going to wait a bit. A roughly 30 lbs weight reduction is great. I also have been eyeing an Aluminum flywheel, which shaves a decent amount of weight off the car. If Ford's curb weight is correct, with the two mods the car should weigh 3400 lbs.

 

HEY 169, i think i remember right i think you have the one piece bmp ds. how do you like the one piecer. does it vibrate? it is good for the street and daily driver?

 

You can't do much worse than the factory's job for prohibiting NVH...

The 2 piece driveshaft exists partially to help crash ratings. It has a long splined section that can collapse in a wreck to ensure the d/s doesn't come up through the floor. This splined section buggers with vibration supression as it seems to cause mechanical runout. It's just poor parts.

Same as the rearends, they're all so shoddy that people are having loads of problems w/R&P installs... likely b/c of carrier runout or housing dimension inconsistencies.

Hopefully Ford continues to improve the car over the next while before I order mine. Maybe I should write them a letter? I asked for spoiler delete in Canada and they made it an option!

 

Also, look @ the dynotech racing driveshafts. I talked with one of their engineers and they say they're having great success, albiet with some clearance issues w/the alu. shaft (which you'd have with the JPC unit as well...)

Thanks! This is the first time I've heard safety was a reason for the design. I do remember a post on the Corral before the 05s came out about problems with the carriers not being consistent. Apparently it is true.

 

Would drive shaft loops help with the safty issue? And what kind of clearence issues do you run into?

$700 for a driveshaft sounds high to me...you can get a Zex kit for less than that.

 

I read on another forum that most people said they exprienced no gain, yet another said he gained .2 in the 1/4. Also some people expreinced some vibration, however the carbon fiber shaft asorbed it, but it cost 1,000.00 dollars. Like everything else many different opinions

 

I'm going to the JPC alum. one due to the tranny conversion. It's shorter than the any aftermarket single pc. unit. The carbon fiber one is nice as well. The CF absorbs any vibrations that may occur and is rated upto 1000hp.
The stock two piece has a CV joint in it as well as a few dampers. That's why that beast weighs so much.

 

Supposedly FRPP will be releasing their aluminum driveshafts for the '05+. Should be under $300.

 

Any time frame for the FRPP?
