JLT Series I vs Series II Question?
JLT Series I vs Series II Question?
I have the JLT series I cold air kit and was wondering if anyone had switched to the series II tube? It says that a retune is required and I wonder if it's worth the $75 for the tube and the cost of the new program?
I have the Xcal I and would have to send it back for a retune.

I think Jay from JLT will give you a break to upgrade to the version II pipe. I know he did for me a while ago. Yes it will need a re-tune but Brent from DTP gave it to me for free for my Predator. Hopefully you can have the luck I had if you choose to upgrade to the new pipe.

Jay told me that it was just and upgraded version and there wouldn't be any performance gain. I did go with a new SCT II from Brenspeed because of some adjustability issues and Brent said he had some newer and better tunes for the JLT cold air kit from what I had installed originally.

I've had all THREE of Jay's CAI's...JLT I, JLT I (with billet ring to prevent tube collapse) and the JLT II with the complete billet MAF sensor housing. Over time with the JLT I, the CAI started to deform due to heat and the clamp pressure. I called Jay and he sent out a billet "collar" that was to be inserted into the filter end of the tube to prevent the tube from deforming from the heat and clamp pressure. Issue was that the collar slipped into the tube end and decreased the inside tube diameter - which caused less air flow and the a/f mixture to run richer - so he was recommending a new tune at that time for that particular JLT I w/collar set up. I definitely noticed a decrease in performance after installing the JLT tube with the billet collar (still using the original tune).
Soon afterwards he came out with the JLT II that has the full billet MAF housing and is back to the original internal diameter.....so if you have the JLT I (without the billet collar) then you could upgrade to the JLT II tube and run the same tune right from the X-cal I. Speaking of which, I asked both Jay and Doug about the upgrade discount from the X-Cal to the X-Cal II and was advised that they were no longer offering the upgrade discount. Doug recommended I contact SC - but I've had bad service with them in the past and decided it was not worth the grief.
I had to upgrade to a new tune though as the '07's programming is different than my '05 was - so I went ahead and got the X-Cal II w/ Bamachips tune. Doug's tunes are great - but in all honesty, my original JLT I tune was just as good and ran just as strong....having used them both, I would not spend a significant amount of $$'s just to upgrade from the JLT I to the JLT II with new tunes (unless you are having issues)...no offense meant to anyone as both Jay and Doug are stand up guys who stick with you and stand behind their products.
Good luck!

I just ordered a JLT, and wondered if anyone installed some sore of rubber trim ring on the top portion of the heat shield? Similiar to C&L, etc. Does this hit the hood blanket, and or does the filter get crushed from the hood?
Thanks

This is the one I ordered. Would this be the latest/greatest release?

Another question per the tune needed. Currently I have the Predator and have had zero issues. Can the current tune be modified by a shop to accommodate the upgrade of the JLT, or is there a location to download the so called canned tune for the JLT, then go from that base and make any modifications needed?
Thanks
