I've got the JBA Longtubes with the catted H-Pipe and stock mufflers and it sounds about right.

I've heard the same setup with the MAC's and it's rediculously loud.

I've also heard the same setup with the JBA Axlebacks and it sounds like they crackle and they drone too.

I've also heard a set of JBA Longtubes with a custom fitted offroad MAC prochamber and Magnapacks and it's loud enough to wake up the dead.

I installed my JBA Long tube header,H Pipe (no cats) and Flowmaster American Thunder mufflers and it sounds like crap. The system is very loud. I start my Stang up in the morning and my buddy 2 streets over can hear it. IT IS LOUD. It's not a deep rumble, the system sounds like the old Cherry Bomb glass packs of the 70s. At ldle is quiets down to a rumble but when it hits 2500 rpm it gets loud and more high pitched. Anyone else have this setup?

Does your current setup sound anything like Brenspeed's off road h-pipe and Flows?

Not the same exact setup, but it sounds like I ended up with a similar result. Next week, I going to swap out my LMs for Magnaflows and see how it sounds.
Don, you will like the Magnaflows. I had the OEM mufflers on my car with my OR X and it was a bit on the raspy side. I installed the Magnaflows and the car quieted down in a good way. At idle the car is definetly quieter and the tone become deeper. Under partial throttle they removed most of the raspiness. There is some rasp there, but it definetly got better. Under WOT, it sounds amazing. Very muscular and my father commented that it even sounded meaner than his highly modded 60's Stang he had when he was my age. My car has gotten a bit quiet for me, so I am thinking of doing LTs in the near future.

I hope they work out. I'll be able to report back next week sometime.

Will be looking for your review. I am really interest in LT's, but want them to sound good. Right now, IMO my car sounds great.

whay exactly does the 05 sound nothing like previous stangs, can't be lack of tailpipes because I have 2 chamber flow w/ dumps, X pipe and longtubes and it sounded wonderful. Just can't figure why these 05 and ups sound so different.

3 valves per cylinder. That's the difference.

I think the muffler placement has to do with it also. The muffler is at the end of the exhaust with no tail pipe section. I think if the mufflers were in the traditional spot before the axle and tail pipe from there, it would sound more like the others.

You know since reading this thread, I've been really paying close attention to the way my car sounds now with my FRPP/Borla setup.

Since I've been scrutinizing it, I can for sure say that I now have the trumpeting effect as well.

I think the difference is the "Tone" of the trumpets, trombones, tuba's...flugalhorns...whatever it is we want to call that effect.

If my trumpets were to become much higher pitched, that's when I'd become concerned, but if it stays down low in pitch, I'd be OK with it.

We'll see....it's making me itchy to install them! I just dropped mine off today to get coated inside and out with a polished finish high temp ceramic coating.

Your guys are making me real squimish on the long tubes and offroad h-pipe. I have been running the Borla cat-back system for 6 months and am very happy with it. (With stock Cats) They just killed the E-check crap around here this fall and was ready to pull the trigger on the headers and O/R H-pipe. But all of this bad press is making me real nervous. I think I will sit here and read for now.

Not exactly a bad move! I'm putting the cats on for a little added insurance in the sound dept. You've got the same setup I do and I would hate for that sweet sound to go away for something even thrashier.

But in the end, if that's what it is, that's what it is. I'm looking for the gains of the longtubes and I'll resign myself to put up with it until my head explodes

I want to go with an O/R H pipe or Mac prochamber but can not decipher everything I am reading about them. I have a 70 Mach 1 with a cammed up 351 and 40 series Flowmasters. I want my 05 Vert to sound like it. First I read the LT and O/R H pipe sound good and than the next guy says it sounds like CRAP!! What to do!! What to Do!!!

Can't really tell until you jump in the pond unfortuneately.

Exhaust sound is highly subjective, and to top it off sound clips from movies, even high quality ones, still doesn't come close to the real thing.

What sounds great to one person, may sound like crap to another. It's so subjective. All I can say is buy what you think is best, and if you don't like it... just adapt to the situation.

p.s. Is it a 351C or 351W? If it is a cammed up 351C, your 4.6 mod motor will never sound like it (except with open headers... LOL). I know... cuz I had a cammed up 351C back in the day.

It is a cammed up 351C. And I know you are right Don- it will never sound like that!! Because if I could figure out how to make the 05's sound like it I could make my first million!!! But you can bet I will stay glued to this and other threads about what you guys are doing and trying with your exhaust. I guess I am just not a trail blazer like you all. I want you to find the perfect sound for the 05!!
Scott

P.S. Don. It also has a shaker hood and it REALLY SHAKES!!!!!!!

Overhead cams I think. I had a 96 4 cammer and it sounded same. More high tech than muscle car. Some times high tech is not the best.

It really sounds like Ford knew what they were doing when they computer modeled and designed the stock exhaust. It is probably the best stock sounding system I've heard on a stock car in over 20 years.

I've listened to links for an aftermarket system, and then compare it to the original system, and I'm still drawn to the original system for some reason.

Everything has an impact on the sound of the exahust system. Firing order, valves per cylinder, CID, overhead valves, exhaust pipe size, and muffler postion.
