Installing Hurst Comp Plus

I am installing my comp plus, and seem to be having a hard time getting the new shifter in place. Is this a common issue?

What problem in particular? What specifically doesn't want to fit?

I put one in and did not have a problem at all. Just slow down and take a look at everything. It is fairly simple.

When I did mine I had trouble accessing the bolt that attaches the shifter to the transmission so I supported the transmission with a jack and took off the transmission mount to lower it for access. I also had lots of fun getting the stock shifter out through the hole in the floor and had more fun getting the Hurst through the hole for the install. If I had to do it again I would drop the driveshaft from the rear of the transmission and install the shifter from underneath the car. Took me about 2 hours and I am pretty handy with the wrench.

Are you having trouble getting the shifter through the hole? If so, just play with the angles. Don't worry so much about getting it in place, just get the through the hole. You'll need to go to the side of the driveshaft. Once you get it in there, the driveshaft will keep it from falling through (if it didn't, you could just install it from the ground) and then once it's through, you can put it in position. Thing is, there's only a few ways it'll go through, and with both that I installed, I didn't pay attention to what way worked, because I tried several things.

My problem is I can get the new shifter down in the hole it just doesnt seem to line up right at all. It was getting towards the end of the day and I think my patience were running thin. Its morning and Im going to go out and try it again=)

I used these instructions when installing mine:

http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2...fter/index.php

I didn't remove the driveshaft, and it was like a puzzle trying to figure out how the shifters will fit through the console hole -- but they will fit without forcing them. I got lucky there and it only took a few minutes to get the shifters through the hole. The hardest part of the install for me replacing the stock rubber lower boot on the new shifter once it was in place. There's not much room to get your fingers in there.

The whole install took me about 90 minutes (using a floor jack and jack stands), and the shifter has been on now for 3 years, with absolutely no rattles or issues since.

He, he..... Mine was the same way. Tried every possible angle nothing would work. Then as I was about to give in, the darn thing just fell through!!! After that, it was a snap!!! I must say though, that an extra set of hands were needed to get the old one out.
