Installing a C&L CAI today

Anything important I should know? This is probably the most technical work I have ever done on a car. The only thing Ive done is a muffler install. What is al this about calibratin codes, PCM, stratedy codes?
I read somewhere that the car has to be on level ground when installing the tune. Is this true? Because my driveway is on an incline.
Im just a little nervous about working under the hood.

I went to install my Modular Depot CAI/Tunes on Sat. and my strategy had been changed by the dealer without updating the sticker on the ECM so now i have to wait to get the proper tune for the new strategy..

so check that first...

Follow this.. K&N AirCharger CAI Install
Most of it is the same with the exception of the intake elbow support bracket and how the heat shield will mount.

See Doug's post on Stradegy Codes for explanation.

Never heard of the car having to be level prior to tune download.

You didn't mention what tune/tuner you have.

Oh, I have the SCT XCal 2. I took the car in for an oil change yesterday. Is it possible the dealer did something to the ECM?

According to Doug's post, nothing has been updated to the 07's. You should be good to go.

Jason... a tip on the install (if you're installing the C&L Street vs. Racer). Notch the supplied MAF bracket so you can slide it under the forward valve cover bolt (otherwise, you'll have to pull/replace the fwd valve cover bolt w/ supplied C&L bolt). This makes for an easier install.. and easy uninstall (if you need to put back to stock for warranty work). The C&L CAI fits like a glove.. I've had 0 issues with it since my install last May. Click link below to my post regarding the install/notch (w/ pic). http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showpo...3&postcount=19

DO NOT REUSE THE OEM MAF SCREWS!!!! I snapped one of them flush with the housing with little to no effort... It was a royal PITA to get back out. Take the housing to Lowes, Home Depot, etc and get two scews that actually fit the threads for the C&L housing.

By your signature it looks like you have the 93 tune. Did you make sure and run ALL the 87 out of the tank before you filled up with 93? That could account for some of your dissapointment if there is any 87 still in the tank.

I ran it down until I had 16 miles left until empty, then filled with 93, then ran that down 3/4, then filled up with 93.

Well that isn't the problem then. How hard have you driven it with the new tune in? You won't notice a major difference if you are just putting around.

A CAI/tune combo (especially a C&L Street/Brenspeed combo) should yield you some noticable power increase over the stock airbox and factory tune.

Maybe your expectations were a little too high?

Did you reset the throttle pedal after the reflash?

1. Turn switch to on (Do Not Start) and wait for warning lights to stabilize (some will go back off).
2. Smoothly and steadily go from 0% to 100% Throttle Application. Hold for a couple of seconds.
3. Smoothly and steadily go from 100% to 0% Throttle Opening.
4. Turn Off Car and wait at least 5 seconds.

If it doesnt work the first time repeat it. I have to do this each time I
reflash the PCM or I get a 1/2 inch of dead pedal before the throttle does anything.

My tune is most noticed on hard shifts (No more torque management).
Sudden hard throttle applications (No delay waiting on the TB to open).
Matched Throttle Downshifts. Barely blip the throttle now.
Before on a 1-2 shift it would barely chirp the tires, Not even that on a powershift thanks to TM closing the throttle. Now it rolls them over several times.

I cant really comment on how your specific tunes feel. I have the Bama Race. I felt it was a significant change on my car.

I took it out again. This time on the highway. I definitely feel that it is more responsive, but I dont really know how to guage 30 hp. Fast is fast is fast. I guess I was just expecting too much. Reading post like "CAI added, its a whole different car" got me too excited.

Yes... easily cut with a hack-saw (and good blade). Just put it in a vise and make 2 cuts.

Skipping the CAI/Tune and going straight to a blower wouldve been better.

I was considering that, but it would have taken me at least another 6 years to save up for one.
